For some reason, NASCAR’s current heir of the Most Popular driver award, Chase Elliott wasn’t aware of the former heir of the Most Popular driver award, his father, Bill Elliott’s sensational comeback drive over Geoff Bodine in 1988 at Bristol. That particular race saw the elder Elliott pull off a drive for the ages as he hunted down Bodine for the win.
It is surprising indeed that the younger Elliott, in his own words, had “never seen” that clip. But now he has, thanks to another heir of the Most Popular driver award, a certain Dale Earnhardt Jr.
The former Hendrick Motorsports driver mentioned the current Hendrick driver in a video of the battle between Bodine and Elliott on Twitter.

“@chaseelliott pretty badass,” Dale Jr. wrote, to which Chase Elliott replied, “I’ve never seen that clip, extremely bad ass. Thanks for sharing!”

Does Chase Elliott see himself driving his father’s racecar from the 80s and 90s?
In a recent press appearance ahead of the race at Martinsville, Chase Elliott was asked by a fan whether he’d be interested in driving his father’s racecars from the past.
Elliott described the opportunity of doing as something that in his opinion would be “pretty cool,” yet it’s something that is out of his league.
“Late ’80s, early ’90s … are much different from what I’ve driven,” he said. “Obviously technology has come a long way since I’ve started racing verses then, but I think it’d be fun.”

Speaking about his own season with Hendrick Motorsports in 2022, Elliott said they’ve managed to accumulate “a decent number of points.” However, this comment was before the Martinsville race.
Post that, Chase Elliott is now leading the standings, though he’s still yet to take his No.9 to the victory lane.

One wonders that when that long-awaited first win of the season does come, will it be like in the same fashion as his father did over Geoff Bodine?
