Even though he didn’t the title, Chase Elliott had a successful run at the Snowball Derby last weekend. After a poor qualifying session, he won the ‘Last Chance Race’ before ending up third in the Derby. He now takes that momentum to the Carolina Midget Showdown, for a major midget car race.

There, the likes of Kyle Larson and Chase Briscoe will join the reigning Cup Series champion. Larson enjoyed a tremendous level of success on dirt tracks this year, winning a slew of races. Briscoe, who will join Elliott and Larson in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2021, will get the first taste of racing against the two accomplished drivers.

The Carolina Midget Showdown will be held on Saturday, December 13th, at Millbridge Speedway. The event was made an invitation-only event after the state of North Carolina limited attendance at the venue by executive order.

Despite that, the participation of the likes of Elliott, Larson, Briscoe, and other dirt track stars keeps up the star attraction for the event. The number of teams participating is also reduced. They are present only on an invitational basis.

Elliott, who does not have prior experience of midget car racing, was surprised to get the invite. “Not exactly sure I’m qualified for the invite, but Preciate y’all,” Elliott said in a tweet.

Originally, the race was scheduled for Sunday. However, scheduling changes pushed the main race to Saturday, which will see twin features. Those will be held after practice, qualifying, and heat races.

After the first feature, a dice roll will be conducted to determine the line-up for the second feature after inverting results from the first feature.

The winner of each feature will receive $500. The points from qualifying, the heats, and both races will be combined; and the driver with the most points at the end will receive a $2,000 prize.

Fans will not be allowed to enter the venue. They can still catch the event on the pay-per-view broadcast on ‘Speed51.TV’.
