This weekend, the NASCAR drivers are preparing for their first race at the North Wilkesboro Speedway. Safe to say, many drivers are excited because this is a classic track and a lot of effort was put into it. Ahead of the race weekend, Chase Elliott appeared in front of the media to talk about the race and beyond.

The iconic speedway was actually in pretty awful shape 12 months ago. However, Dale Earnhardt Jr. took that as a challenge and spearheaded efforts to restore it. Admittedly, the intention was to clean it up for iRacing’s digital platform. If it was in decent condition, it could be mapped through laser scanning. However, it seems that Dale Jr. did too good a job, not that anyone in NASCAR was complaining.

Although the All-Star race at North Wilkesboro has yet to get underway, some eyes are looking ahead. Specifically, at the upcoming Coca-Cola 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Apparently, Elliott was asked what it was like to win the Coca-Cola 600. However, the Hendrick Motorsports driver had to correct the interviewer, clarifying that he had never won the Coca-Cola 600.

He told PRN’s Mark Garrow, “The 600? No, I have not won it. I don’t think, no unfortunately, but I wish I had. We got really close there once, but. It’s certainly a big race on the schedule and the race the everybody wants to win.”

Elliott added, “It is all good. I was just messing with you. I’m no different in that regard. I’d love to check that box and say I’ve won the 600, it’s a big deal. So of course I want to win it and hopefully we can achieve that someday.”

The #9 Hendrick Motorsports star had not enjoyed such a great season so far. After competing in the opening two races, he missed the next six due to injury. Rather embarrassingly, it was not an injury that he received on the racetrack, but he broke his leg while snowboarding. As a result, he was indisposed for a while, and the pressure will be on him to enter the Playoffs.

Considering that, he has less time to snatch his first win of the season. It also does not help Hendrick Motorsports that Alex Bowman is now indisposed due to an injury as well. Hopefully, no more of their drivers will suffer from such misfortunes.
