2023 was certainly a bad year for Chase Elliott. He broke his leg in a snowboarding accident, which put him out of action for a while. However, after coming back, he still missed another race because of a suspension, and that cost him a chance at making the playoffs.

Unfortunately, things kept getting worse for him, with news breaking that he had picked up a shoulder injury. Now, keeping everything aside, the good news is that Chase Elliott is on the road to recovery. In other words, he should be as fit as a fiddle in time for the Clash at the Coliseum on February 4th. Recently, he provided an update on his recovery and spoke about his Clash hopes.

Chase Elliott spoke about how shoulders are ‘tricky’

He told Bob Pockrass, “I’m still working through it. There’s definitely aspects of it that are painful, not fun. Just trying to get your range of motion back. Get things loosened back up again, it’s just difficult. The shoulders are kind of tricky; I didn’t realize how many awkward ways you use your shoulder. I’ve known more about shoulders and knees in the past year than I cared to know about. The knee was definitely worse—a way more complex of an injury. But the rehab aspect of it—the shoulder—has been no joke. The procedure itself, the shoulder, was very simple and straightforward.”

Fortunately, it was not an injury that was sustained in the snowboarding accident. Instead, it was an old injury that had been bothering Chase Elliott for a very long time. He was not the only one nursing an injury, as Denny Hamlin also went under the knife.

For reasons mentioned earlier, Chase Elliott had a nightmare 2023 campaign, partly of his own doing. Now, the upcoming season will be one of redemption for the #9 driver. He missed out on the playoffs for the first time in his career, and Elliott will be eager to not repeat the feat. Frankly, it was hugely embarrassing for Hendrick Motorsports to head into the playoffs at half-strength.
