After the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, there is another title that needs to be decided. To be exact, the drivers are competing against each other to be voted as the Most Popular Driver. Chase Elliott has won that award on four consecutive occasions and is aiming for a fifth. However, he is facing stern competition from the likes of Ryan Blaney.
Blaney recently posted a couple of videos that took some cheeky digs at Elliott. In the same vein, he implored that he was a better candidate to win the Most Popular Driver award. First and foremost, he teased Elliott for using a fork and knife to eat chicken wings and for finding parmesan garlic too spicy. Blaney even wrote a disclaimer, taking responsibility for the advertising. He even claimed that the funds came from ‘Moms for Blaney’, ‘Babies for Blaney’, ‘Dogs for Blaney’, ‘Cats Who Wish They were Dogs for Blaney’, and ‘The Chicken Wing Lovers Community’.

How did Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney fans react to the banter?
Several people found the Team Penske driver’s campaign hilarious. Some were a bit glad that ‘Moms for Blaney’ was an official organization. Others had to admit that they respected the #12 driver’s attempts to drum up support for himself. A fair number of fans even suggested that he head to Hooters and pass out Blaney merchandise to fans while eating chicken wings. This was obviously a reference to the fact that Hooters, Elliott’s sponsor, was sponsoring the Most Popular Driver Awards.
I'm so glad #MomsForBlaney has been recognized as an official movement

It didn’t take long for the Chase Elliott brigade to turn up in droves. Their main purpose was to counter the Ryan Blaney fan club and bring the MPD Award back where it belongs, in Elliott’s hands. Some fans acknowledged the ‘next level voting’ by bringing dogs into the fray, before hoping that Chase Elliott was a dog lover. However, Hooters decided to propose a different animal as a mascot, namely the owl.
Awe man…dont bring dogs into this..that’s next level voting…I love my dogs…cmon @chaseelliott for dogs?? pic.twitter.com/nsIAtu4K7Z

A few other fans admitted that Blaney’s tactics were having the opposite effect. In fact, it was prompting people to vote for Chase Elliott instead. One thing is for sure, all of the drivers are campaigning fiercely to be the Most Popular Driver. Now the big question is, can Elliott grab his fifth consecutive award or will someone else dethrone him?
