Chase Elliott has not had the best of seasons. In fact, the 2023 season has not gone in the right direction for the 2020 champion at all. Injuries, suspensions, bubble battles, and desperation to make it to the playoffs, Elliott’s season has had it all. But being the most popular driver of the last five years, his reputation might have taken a hit.

RFK Racing, on the other hand, has emerged as a potential powerhouse in the Cup Series for the future. Brad Keselowski has gone all in with his plans of reviving the sleeping giant. The veteran has turned around the team’s fortunes alongside a sensational Chris Buescher, whose resurgence has been unexpected. Yet, amidst all the despair, it looks like Chase still holds a dear position in his fans’ hearts.

Chris Buescher has qualified to the next round making it 2 out of 2 for RFK Racing. Coming into the playoffs on the back of 3 wins and some dominant racing in the latter stages of the regular season, the 30-year-old has opted to extend his good run. Buescher also dashed any hopes Chase Elliott had of qualifying for the playoffs on the final race day at Daytona.

At Bristol, Buescher was once again in the highlights, showing incredible grit to finish fourth amid the added pressure of elimination. Greeting the fans after the race, he went on the lookout for autographs and pictures with his supporters. During this moment, he encountered a young and budding fan who declined his offer and pledged fealty to the 2020 champion instead.

Buescher signed autographs for the fans and met a dad-son duo in Hendrick Motorsports outfits. When Buescher offered his cap to the young fan, he noticed that he was another fan of Chase Elliott. Trying to make reason with the kid, the Richmond winner said, “Take off the Chase hat, you don’t want that!”

While it was a great opportunity for him, the fan rescinded a token of gratitude as he put his #9 Chase cap back on with his dad feeling amused in the backdrop. Seems like despite having a forgettable season, Elliott might not have lost his fans after all.

NASCAR fans have a knack for making things dramatic. While the kid displayed loyalty towards Elliott, Buescher didn’t take the slightest offense and smiled back at him instead. He went back to his own ways and gave out some more memorabilia for the fans.

Redditors got a look at this incident through Buescher sharing the video in a post on Twitter. One particular was surprised at the boy’s straightforward answer through his gesture, as he commented, “Damn! That kid is ice cold.”

“The more they show Beuscher, the more I like him. Poor kid is going to look back & kick himself for that one, but I do appreciate his loyalty!” said a fan appreciating both Buescher and the young fan.

“Some get this kid one do Chase’s hats stat” read out a comment, as another fan praised Buescher for being patient and a good sport in this case, saying, “I love how Chris takes it in good humor!”

One of the fans wrote that the fan should have kept his bias aside and gone on to accept that hat, as he commented, “Gotta respect the loyalty, but man, a free hat is a free hat, especially from Buescher!”

From the looks of it, everyone might have given up on the Chase after a disappointing season. The young fan however, has decided to stick with Chase for now.
