Chase Elliott is without a doubt one of the most popular NASCAR drivers. He won the Most Popular Driver award twice for NASCAR Xfinity Series (2014 and 2015) and five consecutive times for the Cup Series (2018–present). However, there was a recent state-wise poll that broke down which NASCAR drivers were popular in respective states. It is noteworthy that the poll also generated responses from across the world, including parts of Europe, South America, and even Asia.
Elliott was deemed the most popular driver in at least 15 American states. Following him was his teammate at Hendrick Motorsports, Kyle Larson, with nine states. Interestingly, the state of Oregon picked the number #43, which most likely means that the King, Richard Petty, is the most popular there. The states of Washington, District of Columbia, and Utah picked the #48 number. This could either mean Jimmie Johnson or the current Hendrick Motorsports star, Alex Bowman.
You guys wanted it updated, and since I received enough votes after the initial map to MORE THAN DOUBLE the response, here it is:

Is Chase Elliott really that popular across America?
Considering that the #9 driver’s name dominated in the highest number of states, the answer is definitely yes. Among other popular drivers, Denny Hamlin claimed four states, including Hawaii. The soon-to-retire Kevin Harvick found that two states are big fans of his, while #23 Bubba Wallace was the fan favorite in five states.

Interestingly, Ryan Blaney was deemed to be the most popular driver in at least five US states. Even the likes of Cole Custer, Chase Briscoe, Martin Truex Jr, and Michael McDowell snagged a state each.
There were plenty of surprises in store on the international front as well. In Canada, it was Blaney who was the most popular. Surprisingly, it was not Daniel Suarez but Brad Keselowski who had the largest fan base in Mexico. In Colombia, Ross Chastain was the most popular driver, while William Byron was popular in Peru (or maybe Jeff Gordon).
