Home/NASCAR

NASCAR drivers can usually fly under the radar. Chase Elliott has cherished this luxury for a long time, mostly opting to stay away from the limelight. When Netflix and NASCAR collaborated for the ‘NASCAR: Full Speed’ docuseries, many Cup Series drivers chipped in. But the reigning Most Popular Driver did not do so – attracting some backlash. However, that narrative has now changed.

The 2025 Super Bowl concluded on Sunday night – and Chase Elliott trumpeted his presence there. The National Football League or NFL tipped its hat to the 2020 Cup Series champion as well. However, this wildly contrasts the NFL’s blatant ignorance of another NASCAR veteran – Kevin Harvick.

Chase Elliott is reaping the benefits nonetheless

In mid-December, Kevin Harvick and his son Keelan attended an NFC matchup game. They watched the Dallas Cowboys and the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium. A video posted by the NFL featured Panthers’ safety Sam Franklin Jr. doing a special handshake with a “special fan” – totally ignoring Keelan’s racing talents and his father’s legendary NASCAR status as a Cup Series Champion. An army of fans staged huge protests against the NFL for this slip-up. But the league did not make the same mistake this time. Chase Elliott attended the recently concluded Super Bowl with much pomp. It was his first documented NFL visit and Elliott also got a shout-out.

A hardcore No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports fan posted the evidence on Twitter. The posted picture displays a visual of Chase Elliott sitting at the NFL game, with his image blown up on the big screen. Below, an apt description was given: “Chase Elliott 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Champion.” This starkly contrasts the NFL’s approach to Kevin Harvick’s presence less than two months ago. Also, this shows that Elliott is taking NASCAR’s new deal seriously. The series is offering anywhere from tens of thousands of dollars to around $1 million to drivers who take part in promotional events this season.

However, that does not cut down Chase Elliott‘s fanboy emotions a bit. Before the Super Bowl game, he clarified which team he was rooting for. “The [Kansas City Chiefs] are always tough, but I’m pulling for the Eagles. I’d like to see them win. I’m getting some head nods in the back. I love it. I’d like to see the Eagles win. [Jalen Hurts] seems like a stand-up leader and individual, somebody that I think everybody can admire. I wouldn’t mind seeing him get a win. He came close the last time they met.”

As it turned out, Chase Elliott’s NFL predictions struck gold. The Philadelphia Eagles beat a magnanimous team to clinch the victory.

Beating a pro team

A lot of drama and emotion was attached to the climax game on Sunday. The Kansas City Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, were looking to make history as the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls. On the other hand, the Philadelphia Eagles, led by Jalen Hurts, were hoping to seek revenge after their defeat in 2022. As it turned out, the Eagles had more grit – the game featured six sacks, three turnovers, and a three-play sequence in the second quarter. All these elements were enough to land the Eagles the Super Bowl crown. Meanwhile, the Chiefs suffered an almost humiliating 40-22 defeat.

Following the victory, The team Chase Elliott’s rooted for was in tears – especially quarterback Jalen Hurts. He emphasized the company of his high-performing teammates as paramount. “I’ve been able to use every experience and learn from it – the good, the bad, all of it – use it as fuel to pursue my own greatness. I couldn’t do any of these things without the guys behind me. We’ve got a special group this year. We were able to learn from the past and get some nice new pieces and get over the hump.”

While Elliott would be bummed that his hometown team, the Atlanta Falcons, didn’t get too far this season, he would be thrilled that the Eagles came through. Although, he definitely would have got some flashbacks from 2016 when the Atlanta Falcons were up 28-3 to Tom Brady’s New England Patriots and blew the lead and their shot at the title. Luckily, the Eagles held on to their 34-6 lead at the end of the third quarter and secured the win. Hopefully, Elliott’s appearance will push the NFL to acknowledge other NASCAR racers who may attend in the future.
