Besides being part of the same organization at Stewart-Haas Racing, 3-time Cup Series champion, Tony Stewart and his driver Chase Briscoe share a common bond. Both racers grew up in the Hoosier state, wearing their hearts on their sleeves, proud of their home state and their roots. In a recent Mentor & Mentee video that came out just hours ago, the SHR boss and his driver got into a candid conversation about their home state of Indiana where Briscoe revealed the challenges of moving out of his hometown to pursue his passion in racing.
Chase Briscoe gets honest about moving out of Indiana
We know for a fact that racecar drivers have different wiring upstairs. It’s not like everyone on this planet has the same affinity, and passion for speed as these people do. To scrape the barrier walls at mind-bending speeds, inches off of each other is not a feat everyone is interested in.

While these unique athletes are rewarded with money, fame, and glory to reach the zenith, they are often required to sacrifice a lot in the process. Showing up to the race shop every day, persistently working with the engineers and crew chiefs, and above all being consistent need not be everyone’s calling. Now coming to the meat of the matter, Stewart and Briscoe are two individuals who would go to any extent for their passion.
Recently, speaking to his boss/mentor, Briscoe revealed the struggles and challenges that were required to make it big in NASCAR. The proud Indiana native was asked what it was like moving to North Carolina. Posed with this interesting question, he revealed, “It was hard. Mine was totally different from yours where, you know, when you came down here you already had the contract. You had everything kind of figured out to a certain extent where with me I kind of moved right after high school on a hope and prayer and just bounced around from couch to couch and it was hard, you know.”

Leaving everything behind in search of a new career, Briscoe also detailed the one thing that kept him calm and in the groove. The driver said, “I think the one thing that made it a little bit nicer was, yeah I was hours away but I was still just a nine-hour drive, like if I really wanted to go home I could be there in nine hours and be there in a day.”

Shortly after the conversation picked up pace, Briscoe asked the 52-year-old veteran, “Do you have any advice, I guess, on staying true to your roots?” The Hoosier who still resides in Columbus, Indiana despite all the fame and fortune, calmly said, “I just, it has always been important to me to never forget where you came from.”
The 3-time Cup Series champion further added to his point, saying, “No matter where I was at or where I was staying or living at the time, I knew where I came from, I remember what I fought for and remembering where I came from was that motivation to keep working hard, harder to make yourself better.”
