Chase Briscoe is a propelling name for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Championship. With the Daytona 500 only a few weeks away from now, drivers are all set to make the season count. Chase Briscoe, Gibbs’ new driver, is also on the list, particularly after he couldn’t claim the title for the 2024 Cup. But who is his idol and what does he envision for himself?

For each of us who strive hard to make it work, we follow the footsteps of someone who guides us to be the better version of ourselves. Briscoe too has someone whom he has followed all through the years, and it seems as though the trajectory is just on the reverse.

Chase Briscoe’s first rendezvous with the leader happened when he rocked the same number that Tony Stewart once drove when he was in Joe Gibbs Racing. The iconic #14 is remembered by all who called themselves “NASCAR fans”. Given that Indiana is the birthplace of both Stewart and Briscoe, it is only natural for the 30-year-old to look forward to Stewart. At just 7 years old, he was captivated by watching Stewart claim his first NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2002. By the time he reached 16, he witnessed Stewart’s incredible rise.

Consequently, he was able to mark this third championship title in 2011. His respect for Stewart deepened over the years as he followed his career. This steeply moved from a successful run with Joe Gibbs Racing to his dual role as co-owner and driver for Stewart-Haas Racing. While Stewart first started with Joe Gibbs and then moved to SHR, Briscoe is just following the opposite. After serving as a driver for SHR, Briscoe is now embarking on his latest stint as a driver for JGR. Speaking on the same, Briscoe said, “I was a die hard Tony Stewart fan. Kind of doing the reverse Tony Stewart, you know, going from SHR to Gibbs Vs Gibbs to SHR. I am a die hard Tony Stewart fan. It’s cool to drive for Joe Gibbs too”.

It seems as though it is not only their teams that are on a similar path. Apart from hailing from Indiana, the two drivers also have a similar start – from the world of dirt racing. In fact, it was Stewart who had brought Chase Briscoe into the world of Xfinity when he first witnessed the kind of powerful driver he was. Briscoe was so taken aback by this opportunity that he had said, “I wish I could go tell 7-year-old Chase who was wearing his Tony Stewart stuff and playing sprint car video games and NASCAR video games that he was eventually going to get to drive his car”.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Chase Briscoe the next Tony Stewart, or is he carving his own unique NASCAR legacy?

Have an interesting take?

After Stewart Haas Racing formally announced that they would be closing all operations post the 2024 season, it was time for drivers to look out for new options. Given that Martin Truex Jr. was retiring from the Joe Gibbs Racing team, this seemed to be the perfect synchrony. Whether Briscoe will be able to keep up with the legacy of the team and prove his worth to his mentee will be a test of time.

Briscoe shares why he is absent from Chili Bowl Nationals despite Joe Gibbs’ approval

After a two-year ban on NASCAR drivers to appear on dirt tracks, Joe Gibbs has finally lifted the ban. This is why the Chili Bowl Nationals has seen drivers like Christopher Bell and Ty Gibbs making it to the run. However, despite Briscoe’s celebrated legacy in the world of dirt racing, he has remained absent from the same. Given how fans had started speculating and trying to find out the reason behind the absence, Briscoe took to his social media account.

Instead of citing the exact reason why he has not made it to the Chili Bowl Nationals, Briscoe said, “First Chili Bowl I haven’t competed at in over 10 years. Feels weird but for sure gonna be tuned in on @FloRacing. If you have any questions about the event or competing in it shoot them my way”. Recently, Briscoe and his wife welcomed their twins, Cooper Banks and Collins Ivy Briscoe, in October. Given that the Chili Bowl Nationals would require Briscoe to be put out from his family for over a week, this absence does make sense.

Briscoe answered a fan’s query on the same line and mentioned, “Couple different reasons, biggest thing is with the newborn twins it’s hard to leave my wife alone for 8 days with 3 kids under 3”. Briscoe’s heartfelt decision to prioritize his family over the Chili Bowl Nationals reflects his deep commitment not just to racing, but to the people who matter most in his life.
