Recently, Hendrick Motorsports Vice President of Competition, Chad Knaus, spoke about his team. Ahead of the second round of the Playoffs, things are starting to get serious. For the Hendrick team, Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott are leading the charge, but what about Alex Bowman and William Byron? Knaus insisted that Byron is performing well, irrespective of his results.
He said, “The results are always not indicative of the performance. That’s where the #24 team had been for quite some time. The performance and the speed, everything else that they were doing, was right. They just couldn’t get the results at the end of the races. So, really proud of the way that William [Byron] and Rudy [Fugle] have soldiered through these first three races. Then quite honestly, I think they’re going to continue. Texas is a great race for him, Superspeedway is going to be good for us. Road courses, they really come into their own.”

The Hendrick Motorsports VP went on to lavish praise on all of his drivers. He even paid particularly close attention to Chase Elliott for his performance this season. Suffice it to say, the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion has impressed him immensely. To the point that he even cited the #9 driver as an example.
Knaus continued, “And the #9, same way. They haven’t qualified as well as they want to. Unfortunately a couple of sub-par qualifying efforts in this round of the Playoffs. But if you want to see somebody pass a race car, and you want to see a team as tenacious, you just got to look at the #9. Chase Elliott, Alan and those guys, they put their head down and they race hard, as soon as the green flag drops.”

For now, the Hendrick Motorsports team will be glad that all four of their drivers are still in contention. They are the only team with four cars in contention, with Joe Gibbs Racing only having three cars qualify. To make matters worse, they lost Kyle Busch in the opening round, leaving them with two cars. However, the threat is not over, as there are other strong contenders.
