Old habits die hard and Carson Hocevar experienced it first hand recently, that too involving an important government document. The 21-year-old joined the NASCAR Cup Series as a full-time racer in 2024, driving the #77 Camaro for Spire Motorsports. He inadvertently made sure that his driver’s license shows that as he added “77” after his signature, which the former Truck Series star said was a force of habit. He even took to the social media platform X to share the hilarious antic.

Carson Hocevar is surprised at DMV’s acceptance

His move to Spire Motorsports in a Cup Series role shocked a lot of people as he has not completed a full season in the Xfinity Series so far. A jump from Trucks to Cup can be incredibly tough and it will be interesting to see how the driver of the #77 performs throughout the current season. One thing is for certain, he is quite proud to be a driver for Spire Motorsports. So excited that when he was asked to put his signature down for his driver’s license, he autographed it instead with “77” at the end of his name. The funny part is that the DMV accepted that signature and made it official. The 21-year-old could not help but get a laugh out of it as he shared the image on his X account.

“just renewed my driver’s license today and for my signature on it i put a 77 at the end by accident out of habit and they accepted it,” Hocevar wrote as he shared a picture of his license, blocking the rest of the information.

While Hocevar’s off-track life has been full of light-hearted moments, the start to the season was not ideal for the 21-year-old as he DNFed in Daytona. However, he managed to get a decent points haul from the Atlanta race, which saw him finish in a respectable P19. But he needs to do better if he wants to achieve his goal for the season.

Before the 2024 Cup Series began, Carson Hocevar said that his objective for the season was to win Rookie of the Year. It will not be an easy task since there are a lot of new faces on the grid this year. The 21-year-old said that another objective would be to finish in the top 20 by the end of the campaign on points.

“The goal on our whiteboard is definitely win Rookie of the Year. Spire has two shots at it, but the No. 77 team definitely wants to be that one to get it. We just kind of have the top 20 in mind, really. Whether it is top 20 in points this year or next year, that is sort of my benchmark, at least. I just want to focus on being above a top 20 average in finish or points, which would be a huge gain from last year,” the former Niece Motorsports man said as per NASCAR, adding, I don’t really have, you know, ‘I wanna get this many top fives’ or ‘I wanna win the race.’ I don’t have a top-10 goal; I don’t have anything like that. You know, it’s just top 20 in points, then I can look at the end of the year and see if we could’ve gotten to that goal. If we do hit that goal, then we just erase it and move on to the next one.”
