As the Cup Series season approaches its final three races, the NASCAR scene is buzzing with major developments and new faces gracing the grid. Among these rising stars is Carson Hocevar, who’s making waves as he skips the Xfinity series and ascends to the upper echelons of stock car racing.

Filling in for the departing Noah Gragson in the No. 42 Legacy Motorclub Chevy, Hocevar’s debut in the top tier has been nothing short of spectacular and has consistently grabbed headlines in recent weekends. However, earlier in the season, following a lackluster 2022 stint in the truck game, the young gun revealed a grim reality for himself and his crew chief.

After a winless 2022 campaign in the truck series that left him finishing a distant 10th in the final standings, the 20-year-old has staged a remarkable comeback. With a full-time ride under Niece Motorsports, he has transformed his career trajectory by securing four astounding victories in 2023.

This accomplishment brings him tantalizingly close to fulfilling his audacious early-season claim of five wins or bust, a claim that hung heavy over his head for months. Hocevar declared, “If I don’t win, I’m getting fired the Monday after Phoenix. I promise you. I already told Phil [crew chief], if we don’t win, either I’m getting fired, or you’re getting fired, or we are both getting fired.” Talk about high stakes!

But what sets Hocevar’s 2023 journey apart is Niece Motorsports’ transformation. The team has acquired “triple the budget” for the No. 42 truck, which Carson Hocevar credits for their newfound competitiveness in the series. With resources now at their disposal to challenge the truck racing elite, he had set his sights on the championship, boldly claiming that it would take five wins to secure the title, and anything less would lead to dismissal.

In a thrilling climax, Hocevar recently clinched his fourth victory of the season at Homestead after a late-race pass, bringing him one step closer to his goal. With just one race left in the truck series calendar, can he achieve the elusive fifth victory and fulfill his prophecy? Regardless of the outcome, the Monday after Phoenix will not spell doom for the young hotshot. Instead, he’s poised for an even brighter future as he steps into the next-gen cockpit for a full-time ride in the Cup Series.

Hocevar’s swift ascent in the NASCAR world reads like a page-turner. The Michigan native has defied expectations with a transition from the Truck Series to the Cup Series, amassing more starts in the latter than in Xfinity and turning heads with his remarkable performance.

In just seven starts in the Cup Series, Carson Hocevar has already secured four impressive top-20 finishes, establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with. Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Hocevar is bidding goodbye to his #42 Silverado and preparing for a full-time role with Spire Motorsports. A multi-year contract has already been inked, and he’s set to slide into the driver’s seat of the #77 Chevy.

Hoecevar’s journey with Spire Motorsports began this year at the Enjoy Illinois 300, where he made his Cup car debut. Although his first race ended in a disappointing DNF, subsequent runs with Legacy Motorclub and the #42 revealed his potential.
