Right now Carson Hocevar might not be the most well-liked person in the paddock! He had a racing incident where he ran into the back of Harrison Burton in Nashville during a caution and that caused Burton to spin. Moreover, if Austin Cindric and Todd Gilliland hadn’t taken evasive action, it would have been a bigger accident than what ensued. In fact, Nemechek only escaped by a hair’s breadth.
And such is Hocevar’s luck, as he himself just pulled a move similar to Nemechek’s in Pocono!

NASCAR slapped a $50000 fine on Carson Hocevar for his stint with Burton in Nashville. NASCAR had let many of the incidents slide according to Denny Hamlin, the No. 14 driver, himself called on NASCAR to pay more attention to Hocevar. This time they did not let matters slide and not only did he get a fine but also docked 25 driver points. And the humiliation undoubtedly came with it. Hamlin called Hocevar a “repeat offender” and rightly so—this isn’t the first time he has been held responsible by NASCAR for breaking code of conduct. Previously, he was penalized two laps during a truck race at Martinsville for attempting to hook Taylor Gray across the track.
In Pocono, Hocevar found himself in a precarious situation. Just as he caused a crash at Nashville that led to others spinning out, this time he nearly got caught in a similar crash. However, in an unexpected turn of events, he was one of the few who managed to escape unscathed.
This time, the drama ensued between Kyle Busch and LaJoie. Corey LaJoie was battling it out with Kyle Busch and LaJoie tried to tackle Busch, but Busch constantly blocked him, and then finally they got into contact. The contact caused Kyle Busch’s car to slide, leading to a multi-car wreck. Even Ryan Preece, Stenhouse Jr., Carson Hocevar, Harrison Burton, and Austin Cindric were caught up in the aftermath.
However, Carson Hocevar was just beside them and managed to escape unscathed! It didn’t look accidental. He maneuvered in a fashion that showcased his incredible skill and awareness. Many missed watching the excellent save from him, but Jeff Gluck posted a video on his Twitter—and it has everyone flipping out!

The incident between LaJoie and Kyle Busch was not just devastating for Busch but it also affected Stenhouse, Ryan Preece, and the rest—all of whom needed those points. The fact that Hocevar managed to escape was surprising to most. One fan said, “He is squeezed in a 5 wide sandwich and is in full save mode, but it’s still sick even if unintentional.”
Now some may say that it’s just sim racing that helped him. Sure, most drivers are behind the seat practicing, but racing in the real thing is always different. The heat, the speed, the turns—nothing can compare to actual races. One fan said, “Somebody’s been watching Pixar’s Cars lately. Straight outta there.”

The fact that Hocevar could do something that’s mostly done in races was what most found exceptional. Another fan highlighted that and said, “Looks like iRacing nect code.”
Many fans had actually watched the race multiple times to watch him in action. One fan said, “I was trying to find him in so many replays.” Well, NASCAR hadn’t shown the save properly but thankfully, they could watch a clear video and a slowed-down one after Jeff Gluck posted!
Most fans just had good things to say about Hocevar and until yesterday when most were just talking about him and the fine. One fan said, “That’s really impressive.”

Well, hopefully, Hocevar can move forward, mend his ways, and get back in the good books of the ones who have already been here for a long time. He is just 21 – he still has a long way to go.
Do you think he will take that penalty and fine and mend this way?
