It is difficult to forget Noah Gragson’s major run-in with the outside wall during stage 2 of the NASCAR Cup Series in Michigan. Moreover, fans are still not over the uproar created by Bubba Wallace and his comments after the incident.
Running somewhere behind Gragson during the race, Wallace had his own opinions on what happened with the 24-year-old Kaulig Racing driver. Gragson was amongst the top 5 in the race before his run-in sent him straight to the pits. And Wallace was heard saying on the radio that he hopes the incident might teach him a lesson.

However, fans did not seem to agree with Wallace’s comment and lashed back at the 23XI Racing driver. Various comments supporting Gragson and pulling down Wallace were doing rounds on the internet. But a few people did step forward to support Wallace.
What did Bubba Wallace think happened?
In one of his recent interviews from Corey LaJoie’s ‘Stacking Pennies,’ Bubba Wallace said that maybe Noah Gragson “Overdid it.” Referring to the Michigan incident, Wallace explained how pushing your car to its limits can hamper your race.
This was not the first time Gragson faced difficulty during a race. However, feeling that Gragson might have tried too hard at the NASCAR Cup Series race, Wallace said, “When you try too hard…like look at Gragson, when he is trying to do in the 16 and when he climbs in that thing it’s like he is over-driving it, overdoing it.”
With over 6 years of Cup Racing experience, Wallace feels that sometimes it’s about managing rather than winning. According to him, one cannot keep over-driving and expect to win.

In hindsight of the Michigan incident, Bubba Wallace thinks that at times it’s okay to lose some spots. Emphasizing how important it is to not test the limits of a vehicle during a race, he said, “Calm down, you’re fine. You might lose a couple of spots but it’s the best of the best guys. Like don’t overdo it.”

Further, Wallace feels that winning when it actually matters could be the best strategy for all. Maybe not trying too hard to win, and focusing on managing things, can be a great way of avoiding incidents like this.
“And I finally got to that point where it’s like quit trying so hard and manage and try hard …win it when it matters.”
