In Michigan, Bubba Wallace came quite close to his first win of the season, but he was up against The Closer, Kevin Harvick, who did what his name suggests. Harvick won the race, leaving Wallace in second place.
Now, under ideal circumstances, finishing P2 is a good result, but the 23XI Racing driver didn’t feel so.
In his post-race interview, Wallace described how he has “failed everybody” by not winning the race and finishing 2nd, as he beat himself up for the result.

This was something that Harvick touched upon ahead of the race at Richmond. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver opened up on how the “young kids” have it tough, but they also need to be in touch with the reality of NASCAR.
“The expectations they have, which is good but losing is something that you have to learn how to deal with in this particular sport,” Harvick said.
“He wears his emotions on his sleeves and that’s who he is and that’s how he does things,” he continued. “I would never ever publically admit to anything bothering me. I’ll give you guys as little as possible. I’m very calculated about the things I show or say, for the most part.”
“It’s fun to watch that emotion but it’s also the next question, the next week.”

“I want to make this a super-long-term deal. I’d love to retire here — hopefully retirement’s not until like 10, 15 years down the road – but that was that was my goal from day one,” he said.
Wallace described how 2022 has been, in his opinion, his best year so far in the Cup Series, one in which they’ve continuously made strides to improve and get better.
