What a way to win the championship! Ty Majeski utterly dominated at Phoenix Raceway, leading 132 of 150 laps to clinch the title at the grandest stage of them all. To say that he was dominant would be an understatement, as the ThorSport Racing driver led the entirety of the final stage, fending off Corey Heim, who was on fresher tires. Victory for No. 98 Ford ensured his team secured back-to-back titles, racking up a total of six so far.
After the race, Majeski was seen performing a Polish Victory Lap, made famous by fellow Wisconsin native Alan Kulwicki. Having made a name for himself on short tracks, the 30-year-old’s achievement will serve as an inspiration for the next generation of superstars.

Ty Majeski was always going to be a force to be reckoned with, especially when he made it to the Championship 4. Despite making a slow start to the season, the racing driver secured back-to-back victories at Indianapolis Race Park and Richmond Raceway to progress into the playoffs. A second-place result at Homestead-Miami helped him remain in contention for the title at Phoenix, where he qualified in second place, just behind rival Corey Heim. From that point onwards, Majeski looked like a man on a mission, dominating the majority of the race before finishing first.
Elated at the result, Ty Majeski said in the post-race interview, “This is so much fun racing with this group. So proud to have the opportunity to drive these great race trucks. There’s a lot of times in my career where this looks like a far dream, and [team owners] Duke and Rhonda [Thorson] really gave me my third opportunity after I had two opportunities but I failed. I can’t thank them enough. My wife Ali has been there every step of the way. We’ve had ups and downs but just so proud of these guys.”
Ty Majeski has had quite a journey that led to a thriving NASCAR career. He started off working on cars, before being moved to the team’s shop. Eventually, he became an engineer before getting a shot behind the wheel. In the last two years, the driver has finished 4th and 8th respectively, but owners Duke and Rhonda Thorson kept faith in him, which ultimately paid off this year. The result also meant that ThorSport Racing became the first Truck Series team in history to have multiple back-to-back championship wins, as Ben Rhodes won last year and Matt Crafton secured victories during the 2013-14 seasons.

The championship fixture at Phoenix Raceway featured plenty of firsts for Ty Majeski, including winning the championship. Before the race, the No. 98 Chevy driver had never won from the pole, even though he had qualified in first place six times this season. Knowing that nothing but a clutch performance would be needed to get a result, the Wisconsin native was lights out from the get-go, showing lightning-fast pace in his truck while his rivals Corey Heim, Christian Eckes, and Grant Enfinger had no answer to his dominance.

After a long and hard season, Ty Majeski deserves a well-earned rest after winning his first Truck Series championship. But before taking a much-needed vacation, the 30-year-old marked his monumental achievement at Phoenix Raceway by performing a unique motorsport celebration. Popularized by Australian drivers such as Daniel Ricciardo and Jack Miller, Majeski was seen having a drink from his shoe while his crew members cheered him on.
The driver wasn’t the only one to do the ‘shoey’ as ThorSport Racing team owner Allison Thorson also joined in. With the drinks flowing at the 1-mile track, the No. 98 team has earned a well-deserved party after the consistent efforts have led to Ty Majeski securing 10 top-five results, including four runner-up finishes throughout the season. The state of Wisconsin will also be in a celebratory mood as Majeski became the third Truck Series champion, joining Johnny Sauter and Travis Kvapil in the history books.

Having recently incurred a $12,000 fine by NASCAR for missing media obligations to vote during election day, Ty Majeski had announced his intention to appeal the penalty given the circumstances. Could the sanctioning body waive the fine as a gesture of goodwill after his Championship victory? While unlikely, it will go a long way in ensuring that the 30-year-old doesn’t have a bittersweet ending to what has otherwise been the greatest season of his motorsport career so far.
