With the start of the 2025 season so close, NASCAR is gearing up for a grand return. The Cup Series is returning to the hallowed Bowman Gray Stadium racetrack! The last Cup race here was flagged off back in 1971, and in the 54 years since, the ‘Madhouse’ was a regular destination for the Late Model series. The Myers family came to prominence in this period, as three generations have clinched multiple victories at the track. Burt Myers stands out as the highest achiever – and now, at 49 years of age, he is making his NCS debut at none other than his home track.
Who is Burt Myers?
Born in 1975 in the hallowed Myers family of Modified Racing in the Southeast, Burt Myers inherited a rich family legacy. Members of his family have been racing at the Bowman Gray Stadium since the 1950s. Billy Myers, dubbed as ‘Mr. Bowman Gray’ and his brother Bobby claimed four track championships in five seasons from 1951 to 1955. Billy’s son Gary also continued the legacy, which was subsequently passed on to Burt and his brother Jason Myers. Overall, the family owns 235 race victories since 1950.

Another track that was frequented by the Myers family was North Wilkesboro Speedway. Nearly every member of the household has won there in the last 70 years. For example, Billy Myers won a NASCAR Convertible Division victory on March 16, 1958. Then Bobby, Gary, and Jason Myers also earned wins at the 0.625-mile oval through the years. The only odd one out was Burt Myers – he dazzled at the ‘Madhouse’ instead.
Following in the footsteps of his family, Burt Myers keeps up the family’s racing legacy
When racing is in your blood, what can stop you? We already know the eternal presence of the Myers family at Bowman Gray Stadium – but Burt Myers took this bond to another level. In 1999, when he was just 23 years old, Burt became the youngest racer to clinch a Modified Tour track championship at the quarter-mile short track. He followed it up with ten more track championships. The latest came in August 2024, when Burt held off his hard-charging brother Jason.
After clinching his 11th Bowman Gray victory and 97th career Stadium Tour Type race, Burt Myers was beaming with joy. “I guess we talked about that we wanted to be the only car sitting here tonight. I do remember doing this in my first one in 1999 and now we get No. 11 to do it again.” Besides his ‘Madhouse’ dominance, Myers also boasts two NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Championships (2010, 2016). He is also the 2002, 2021, and 2023 SMART Modified Tour Champion.

Can Burt Myers be able to carve a permanent place in NASCAR’s elite series?
Well, shifting from a major Late Model career to NASCAR can be a gargantuan task. Although no hints are afloat about Burt Myers pursuing any long-term future in the stock car series, he has all the qualities for it. According to an interview, he outlined his pointers for being a successful racer. These include focusing on the front row, being smart, and also being a little aggressive. Besides that, Rebecca Auchmoody, owner of Team AmeriVet, has soaring confidence in Burt Myers. She is looking forward to a bang at the Clash race. “I couldn’t be more excited to kick off the racing season at The Clash with Burt Myers.
