The Martinsville Speedway witnessed an unexpected turn of events during the recent NASCAR race. The Chevrolet Camaro pace car mysteriously broke down from the front of the field, briefly delaying the race. In a twist of humor, Amanda Wallace, wife of 23XI Racing‘s star driver Bubba Wallace, took to her Instagram story to troll Chevrolet, seizing the moment to advocate for Toyota.

Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride for both the drivers and their fans. The Chevrolet pace car, leading the field, experienced an abrupt breakdown, bringing the race to a temporary halt. The cause of the breakdown remained a mystery initially. But it happened in the blink of an eye. The pace car came to an unexpected stop at a corner’s peak, just moments before the race was set to resume.

The pace car incident led to confusion among the racers about whether they could pass the halted pace car. Fortunately, chaos was averted as a safety truck swiftly took its place. And that allowed the race to proceed without incident a couple of laps later.

A representative from Chevrolet disclosed to Road & Track, saying, “Rubber debris from the track damaged the wiring harness to the fuel pump, disabling the pace car. NASCAR has transferred to the backup pace car to continue official pace car duties for the balance of the race.” This backup pace car, then, assumed the role of guiding the race to its conclusion.

While such pace car issues are rare, they aren’t entirely unprecedented. In 2014, a Chevrolet pace car caught fire during the Sprint Unlimited race at Daytona, right before the final segment of the race was going to begin.

Seizing the opportunity, Amanda Wallace, wife of renowned NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, expressed her humor and loyalty on her Instagram story. Given Bubba’s affiliation with Toyota, she couldn’t resist poking fun at Chevrolet’s expense. In a jovial tone, she posted a video of the towed-away pace car on her Instagram story and cheekily captioned it with, “More reason to buy @toyotaracing.”

The unexpected scene of a pace car parked at the side of the track, awaiting a tow, became the subject of amusement and banter among racing fans. Social media platforms were abuzz with commentary, memes, and good-natured jibes at Chevrolet.

One fan humorously commented, “Chevy quality right there.” Another observant fan noted, “That doesn’t look good for Chevs. There’s debris all over the roads, especially blown tire pieces from 18s GMC. MUST recall and replace the wiring harness or install a protective cover.” Another joined in and commented, “It always makes my day when I see a Camaro on the hook! That sure was a good-looking F-series out front though!”

Chevrolet’s decision to use their Camaro pace car provided ample fodder for humor, with one fan joking, “And they wonder why the Camaro is disappearing for good.” Additionally, some fans took the opportunity to express their preferences, suggesting that Toyota’s TRD Camry should have been the pace car instead. One fan quipped, “Should have used the @Toyota TRD Camry pace car out there.” One fan couldn’t resist the temptation to adapt Chevrolet’s old slogan, “Chevrolet – Like a Rock,” humorously stating, “On the side of the road just like a rock.”
