On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup race at Watkins Glen concluded with Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson winning. Behind him were AJ Allmendinger, Joey Logano, Chase Elliott, and Daniel Suarez.
Suffice to say, the likes of Elliott and Allmendinger gave Larson a good fight, but he eventually prevailed.
Recently, 23XI Racing spotter Freddie Kraft spoke about the race and named the top 3 road course racers in his opinion.

He said, “The three guys that come to mind for me, that are pure road racers. That outperform their equipment are AJ, obviously. Michael McDowell and Chris Buescher.”
“Chris Buescher and Michael McDowell always find themselves in the Top 10 of a road race.”
“AJ is always up there, seemingly you don’t hear from AJ all day long and suddenly you’re like ‘Holy sh*t! He might win this race.'”

What about the Hendrick Motorsports drivers?
To be honest, it was a bit surprising that neither Kyle Larson nor Chase Elliott made the list. Especially since many of Elliott’s wins were on road courses.
Nevertheless, Kraft firmly believes that Allmendinger, McDowell, and Buescher are better on road courses. Admittedly, there is only one road course race coming up later this year, at the Charlotte Roval on October 9th.

For now, Larson and Elliott will be focused on the upcoming Playoffs after the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona. The Daytona race is important because it will determine the final 16 drivers who will qualify for the Playoffs.

Currently, Ryan Blaney is on the bubble and his main threat is Martin Truex Jr. However, he also has to keep a wary eye out for any wildcards who could win.

All this will most likely not bother the Hendrick Motorsports drivers. This is because all four of them have booked their berths in the Playoffs. However, once the paddock heads to Darlington, that is when things will really get serious.
Elliott will be eager to clinch his second career Cup Series title. Meanwhile, teammate Kyle Larson is gunning for consecutive titles. This is a feat that no one has achieved since Jimmie Johnson from 2006 all the way until 2010.
