Earlier at the Bristol Motor Speedway, there was a bit of controversy surrounding the caution deployment. Apparently, the NASCAR officials often deployed cautions, even when there was no wreck. The justification was usually that there was debris on the track, but more often than not, there wouldn’t be any debris. Sometimes, the opposite would happen, where it is needed, but it never appears. Following the latest caution controversy with Brad Keselowski, spotter Freddie Kraft did not mince his words.

He said, “I don’t think any one of these situations merited a caution flag. But I can tell you what, you can’t have one be caution and not the other. Like from Brett’s point, they immediately called debris from the tower. Nobody at Turn 2 said, ‘Hey tower, there’s debris over here, you better put it out. The second he got loose in the middle of One and Two. The difference in these two accidents was, the #20 car had sparks coming off of it, and the #6 did not. That was the biggest difference in these accidents.”

Brad Keselowski was not the only one complaining
There were plenty of other drivers who were fuming at the uneven cautions. One such driver was Austin Cindric, who was particularly incensed when he didn’t get a caution flag when his tyre went flat. At least he was reasonably glad that the flat tyre did not adversely affect his chances is surviving Playoff elimination.

The same could not be said for Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Austin Dillon and Tyler Reddick. All four of them were the first to be eliminated. The bottom line is that drivers are not happy with the inconsistent cautions. What they need is for NASCAR to actually have a proper reason to throw a caution flag when it is really needed. Coming back to Brad Keselowski though, the only bright side of the race was Chris Buescher winning the race.
