The 21-year-old Spire Motorsports driver, Rajah Caruth, created history last weekend with his first NASCAR win at Las Vegas Motorsports. This was only the third win by an African-American driver in the national series. For a driver who once was not sure about his future racing in the Truck Series, seeing him bag his maiden win was the most wholesome moment of the entire weekend.

While his win saw him join the likes of Wendell Scott and Bubba Wallace, the biggest win apart from his racing was his meteoric rise on social media platforms. In the modern era of racing, the easiest way to judge a driver’s influence and name in the game is through their social media numbers. And after the win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Caruth leveled up his social media game, gaining new followers.

Talk about NASCAR trying to make the noise and push their narrative out in front of a new audience; it was very well established last weekend with Rajah Caruth’s win. Not only did he create a buzz surrounding his status as a black driver winning in NASCAR, but he also managed to rope in those new audiences online.

Not only Caruth, but his team, Spire Motorsports, also saw a bump in their social media following. A post shared by Set Eggert shows how big of an impact the Vegas win had on Caruth’s social media presence. The young driver added 9,159 new followers on Instagram, 4,788 on X, and 692 on Facebook.

As a part of a 2,700 percent increase in Caruth’s social media following, he added 410 new subscribers to YouTube. Another 1,400 followers on TikTok and an additional 232 users joined his Twitch profile. If there was a contest for racking in new social media followers amongst the Truck Series drivers, Caruth would have again come out on top, based on these figures.

The win at Las Vegas was not an overnight success for Spire’s #71. He is one of those few who followed in the footsteps of William Byron and was introduced to the world of NASCAR through simulation racing. As everyone knows, there’s a night-and-day difference between sim racing and real competitive racing. But Caruth was prepared for his next step in racing and raced his way to his NASCAR glory.

The 21-year-old quickly grew from racing in the ARCA series to then transitioning into the Truck Series in 2022. In his very first season at ARCA, he finished third in the championship standings. Securing a full-time seat with GMS Racing in 2022, Caruth started to dish out good results. At the tail end of the season, he managed three top-five finishes driving the #24 Chevy for GMS Racing.

His good performances grabbed the attention of Hendrick Motorsports, and they signed him to race in the championship Xfinity Series race at Phoenix. They also went on to continue this partnership and decided to sponsor him for the entirety of the 2024 season in the Truck Series. Given that he made the most of this opportunity and converted it into a memorable win, it will be interesting to see what more he has to offer this season.
