Is Kyle Busch the ultimate villain in NASCAR, or just a misunderstood genius on the track?

Heartbreaking. That’s the best way to describe Kyle Busch’s race at the 2024 Hollywood Casino 400. As we have seen so often this season, Rowdy came agonizingly close to breaking his 50-race winless streak, only to be thwarted by Chase Briscoe yet again. The two drivers went wheel-to-wheel at Darlington Raceway earlier this season. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver dramatically overtook his rival in the last lap to clinch a playoff spot.

To say that Busch has had a frustrating season would be an understatement. The two-time Cup Series winner is competing for nothing but pride. According to a prominent NASCAR Insider, he could look for payback in the upcoming races.

Could Kyle Busch seek revenge against Briscoe?

Kyle Busch has won a Cup Series race in each of the last 19 seasons he has competed in. However, that record could be broken this season. The 39-year-old was in an excellent position to enter Victory Lane at Kansas Speedway, having led the race with 32 laps to go before it all came crashing down. Rowdy was engaged in an intense duel with eventual winner Ross Chastain when his No. 8 Chevy got loose through Turn 2 while attempting to lap Chase Briscoe, forcing his car to bounce off the wall and spin on the track.

All his hard work came undone in one instant. Having worked hard to overtake Ross Chastain and keep him at bay, Kyle Busch was forced to contend with a 19th-place finish.

What must have particularly hurt Rowdy is the fact that Briscoe is the very reason the Richard Childress Racing driver isn’t in the playoffs for the first time in 12 years. It’s fair to say that there is no love lost between the two drivers, which has prompted Bubba Wallace’s spotter Freddie Kraft to say on the Door Bumper Clear podcast, “If you’re in Chase’s position, especially now being out… you don’t want to make enemies at this point, and he did.”

In Briscoe’s defense, there was little he could do to avoid the incident. The No. 14 Ford driver is competing to keep his title hopes alive and was desperately trying to not go a lap down. By letting Busch through easily, the Stewart-Haas Racing driver would run the risk of losing more spots on the track, something he cannot afford to do with a spot in the Round of 8 on the line. While Kyle Busch was unlucky to have missed out on a potential victory yet again, the racing veteran will only have himself to blame for the result.

Have an interesting take?

With six races remaining, time is running out for Kyle Busch and Chase Briscoe to salvage their seasons. Rowdy has six more weekends to secure a race win or end the season winless. Meanwhile, Briscoe is currently 25 points outside the elimination cutline with races at Talladega Superspeedway and Charlotte Oval remaining. His 24th-place result at Kansas Speedway was a big setback for his championship hopes, but Briscoe will look to get back into the top 10 at the 2024 YellaWood 500.

Excitement is at an all-time high as the NASCAR Cup Series is heading to Talladega Superspeedway for the second Round of 12 races of the season. With the stakes being higher than ever, Chase Briscoe knows that getting a good result could be the key to maintaining his title hopes. With Stewart-Haas Racing ceasing operations at the end of 2024, the Indiana native’s No. 14 Ford Mustang is set to honor team co-owner Tony Stewart with a livery that will pay tribute to sponsor Rush Truck Center.

The yellow and black paint scheme will be similar to the one Stewart used to feature on his car during his prime. Stewart-Haas Racing shared the news on their official X account, with a caption that said, “What a rush it’s been. As a long-standing partner of SHR, @rushtruckcenter will look familiar with @ChaseBriscoe_14 in an iconic @TonyStewart throwback at Talladega.” The post featured the brand-new paint livery of the car, which prompted Stewart to say, “This is bad—.

Rush Truck Center and Stewart-Haas Racing have a relationship that dates back to 2010 when Tony Stewart drove the No. 14 Chevy. As for Briscoe, he is the only driver on the team who is competing in the playoffs after a shocking victory at Darlington Raceway. The 29-year-old finished fourth at Talladega Superspeedway last year, a result he will hope to emulate this time around. With his Cup Series future guaranteed after securing a seat with Joe Gibbs Racing for 2025, Briscoe will hope to give SHR the fairytale ending it deserves by lifting the title at Phoenix Raceway.
