Going into the Martinsville race, RCR had Austin Hill in the top four, 10 points ahead of the cutline. Their second playoff driver, Sheldon Creed, was far behind and needed to win to make it to Phoenix.

On the last lap of the race at Martinsville, Creed and Hill were locked in a battle for the win. As the driver of the 2 was already leaving the team, RCR might have been favoring the 21 more. But Sheldon Creed is a racer and when there is an opportunity to win a race, no racer will give it up. He made an aggressive move to get ahead of his teammate, which led Austin Hill to spin out and ultimately give up his hopes of the Championship 4. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Justin Allgaier swooped in from out of nowhere and snatched the victory. Eventually, Richard Childress was left with zero drivers in the final 4.

The team owner was left absolutely fuming as he said that Sheldon Creed was the stupidest driver to have ever worked for him. The driver of the #2 didn’t hold back either, as he accused the team of favoritism and revealed that to be one of the reasons why he was quitting. Given how the split was announced by both parties, it is safe to assume that they were not on amicable terms.

Reacting to the incident, Bubba Wallace could not contain his shock over what had transpired. He sent out a tweet that perfectly summarized how the NASCAR fandom felt when they saw the whole incident. “Holy 💩,” the 23XI Racing star tweeted.

The incident sent shockwaves across the NASCAR fandom. Richard Childress and Sheldon Creed both took shots at each other after the race. Fans were left stunned as they flocked under Bubba Wallace’s comments section to make their feelings known.
