In the Netflix docu-series ‘Race: Bubba Wallace’, one notable absentee was his father, Darrell Wallace Sr. One of the episodes of the series revealed how he refused to be interviewed.
The narrative also explored the fragile relationship the 23XI Racing driver has with his father, something that got worse after a particular point in his life. Watching the series, one can’t help but realize just how much the lack of a father figure affected Wallace mentally, and regardless of what happened, he still longs for him, as his fiancee said.
But in a recent interview with CBS, the Talladega winner revealed the positive impact this docu-series has had on this very aspect of his life.

“To be honest with you, the docu-series just came out, and shortly after I received a text message from my father, a very positive text message,” Wallace said. “That surprised me, but my family and I were praying for it. So I think we’re starting to rekindle.”
Wallace admitted, “There’s a lot of work to be done.”

“The light switch went off, I got in my truck and went over and fought my dad, like swinging fists, just did before I thought. A physical altercation,” he recalled said.
“For 15 years of racing, it was me and him. And then that day, that was it.”
Regardless, it’s good to know that, irrespective of the past, irrespective of the ground that is to be covered, Darrell Wallace Sr. and Bubba Wallace are taking steps to work out their differences.
