Wallace embraced his philosophy of not throwing in the towel. Despite finishing 12th at Richmond, Wallace was content with the result, knowing that they had a strong points day, leaving them with a fairly healthy margin before the playoffs.

According to racer.com, Bubba Wallace said in a post-race interview. “We keep saying it — Bootie [Barker] will keep saying it — you keep throwing your name in the hat, our time will come. Obviously, we know Michigan is next week, so just have to learn from this one and build off of it and go into there.”

Wallace was gracious in his defeat, acknowledging the winner, Chris Buescher, and emphasizing that the team didn’t lose any ground in the points tally. He continued as he congratulated Chris, “I’m glad a car in front of us won. I think I watched who was leading at that point more than what we were doing. Congrats to [Chris Buescher]. We didn’t lose a spot.”

Despite the satisfying points margin, Wallace and his team did encounter some hiccups during the Richmond race. Particularly on pit road, which impacted their final result.

“Just had a hiccup of a pit stop, but just never really rebounded, recovered. Like, balance just went away,” said the #23 Toyota driver, explaining his pit stop woes. “Man, it’s just hard. This place is tough, finding the right line and the right balance, and we just fell off of it. So, one of the best here (Kevin Harvick) had the worst (final) restart and held us up, unfortunately. But it is what it is. We finished 12th.”
