Luck has not been smiling upon Bubba Wallace this season, as he finds himself empty-handed in the win department, making his playoff hopes a distant dream. Although his teammate Tyler Reddick secured a solid 8th place in the playoff standings with a triumphant performance at Circuit of The Americas, Wallace is grappling to break into that coveted top 16.

Despite showcasing impeccable skills throughout the first half of the season, Bubba’s road to success has been bumpy. as evidenced by his disappointing 37th-place finish at Atlanta. In spite of all the odds, he remains hopeful of clinching a playoff spot based on points. Yet, what raised the eyebrows of many was his post-race interview after the New Hampshire race, which caught the most attention, where, in a somewhat mocking manner, the No. 23 Toyota Camry driver hinted at the notion of NASCAR rigging races in favor of the Hendrick Star, leaving many in astonishment.

Last year, Bubba Wallace showcased his skills behind the wheel at New Hampshire, finishing a solid 3rd. He even displayed his prowess during qualifying, securing an impressive 8th place. However, this time after the race, in the post-race interview, he openly expressed his dissatisfaction with his own performance, admitting that there’s no excuse for mistakes at this stage of the season, whether it’s his fault on the track or the crew’s fault in preparation.

Bubba Wallace emphasized the need for his team, 23Xi Racing, to step up their game as a cohesive unit if they want to have any shot at the playoffs. However, in an interesting turn of events, Wallace made a sarcastic remark about William Byron‘s victory, only to quickly retract it.

With a humorous tone, he quipped, “Yeah, if NASCAR keeps giving the 24 wins, then we’ll be good,” Wallace jokingly said via Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports. “Kidding! Totally kidding! But I was glad they called it when he was leading, seeing who was up there. For him to get another win, that’s good.”

Regardless, the subtle undertone may, in a way, be taken as a portrayal of his belief that NASCAR might have shown some bias toward William Byron in the Atlanta race.

In addition to that, Wallace acknowledged the crucial fact that mistakes don’t translate into points, recognizing the imperative of eliminating errors to secure valuable points for his team and himself.

Wallace has witnessed a setback of 33 crucial points in the past two races, putting him in a precarious position just below the playoff cut-off spots. This is the first time since May that he has slipped below the threshold. Nevertheless, he remains resolute in his determination to secure a race victory instead of relying solely on stage points to qualify.

Following the New Hampshire race, Wallace wasted no time taking to Twitter after qualifying. With P8 safely secured for the start, the driver representing 23XI Racing has his sights firmly set on the coveted checkered flag.

As Wallace tweeted, “Regular season is closing in; we see it. Eyes are locked in on the checkered. Time to shift our momentum and rebound. Rolling off P8 tomorrow, nothing left to do but get after it.”
