As the race reached its final stages, Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson found themselves locked in a fierce battle for the lead. With victory on the line, the two drivers were side by side, pushing the limits of their cars and skills. However, unfortunately, this intense duel took a dramatic turn. In a surprising twist, Larson’s car suddenly got loose, resulting in a spin that shattered his hopes of securing Hendrick Motorsports‘ 300th Cup Series win. While Larson’s car suffered damage, Wallace continued racing.
The incident became a topic of discussion on the latest episode of Door Bumper Clear, where co-host Casey Boat asked Freddie Kraft to share his opinion on the incident. “Moving onto another Kyle in the race. Kyle Larson says I should’ve just made more space after spinning in a side-by-side battle with Bubba Wallace for the win. Freddie?”
“Spot on! That he didn’t take us with him,” said Freddie. “Listen, it’s just 2 guys with just really good restarts. Two guys that will just let it all hang out there. I mean, we didn’t have to. I told Bubba, coming into green where I was, we want to win, we don’t have to win. Don’t be overly aggressive here. Selling out trying to get the win. I mean, maybe I am biased, I don’t think, I mean, obviously you are holding him tight. But I don’t think we were holding him like trying to wreck him type. I think we got onto his door on the way into [turn] 1 and Kyle lost it and we keep referencing the teardown.”
“But I think Jeff talked to Cliff [Daniels] afterward,” he added. “And Cliff said, listen, you know, these cars haven’t had these issues as bad as the old car. Where you could use a little more side force lean on. But the second you lose that side force, it’s over. Like, there’s no saving it. So, I think just 2 guys going for it. Kyle said, maybe he should’ve gave us more room, like I don’t know what he’s gonna do differently there.”

In the aftermath of the race, Kyle Larson took responsibility for the costly mistake that led to his downfall. Despite having an exceptionally fast car and a commanding performance, impatience got the better of him.
In a post-race interview with Stephen Stumpf of Frontstretch, Larson admitted that he hadn’t expected his car to lose grip underneath Bubba Wallace. He reflected on the incident, saying, “Our race car was super fast. We had an extremely fast car, was fun to drive, and just a bummer, yeah. Wasn’t expecting to get loose like that underneath the #23 [Bubba Wallace]. With the Next Gen cars, that doesn’t seem to be an issue.”
“I don’t think it is the byproduct of the car,” Larson added. “I think if I could just replay it again, I would just give more space into [turn] 1 and race it out off of [turn] 2, and eventually the bottom would have won out. So I was just trying to get it all too quickly and should have just worked for another corner.“
