Coca-Cola 600 holds the status of the longest race in NASCAR, taking place at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. However, this time around, it was a lot more than just that. Amid excitement and anticipation, an unfortunate wreck occurred between Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott. The incident then sparked a wave of controversy among fans and led to calls for Chase Elliott’s suspension.

As he sat out a number of races due to his snowboarding injury, now, every race has become crucial for Hendrick Motorsports’ “Golden Boy”. Moreover, Chase has to secure victories to accumulate the points and book a spot for himself in the playoffs.

A video shared on Twitter by Couch Racer fueled the fire among fans. They compared the incident with previous years’ one and raised the demand for Golden Boy’s suspension.

Despite this, Couch Racer’s tweet allowed Fans to draw comparisons between this incident and a wreck involving Bubba and Kyle Larson from 2022. As a result, NASCAR authorities suspended Bubba for one race. Now, fans are demanding that Chase Elliott be treated the same way as Bubba.

In the midst of these raised concerns, Fox journalist Bob Pockrass tweeted, “When asked about potential penalties… NASCAR states that it will closely examine the Elliott-Hamlin wreck over the next 24 hours.”

 

Despite Chase Elliott’s substantial fan base, supporters are hoping for fairness and equal punishment for everyone involved. It will be interesting to see how NASCAR decides to handle the situation.

Following Couch Racer’s tweet featuring the wreck video, fans flooded the comment section with a variety of views and opinions. Some fans compared the incident with last year’s wreck, stating, “Yah definitely exactly the same. Wait, did I miss the part where chase got out and assaulted someone half his size?

Others disagreed, saying, “Not exactly. Bubba chased Larson all the way to the apron. It was a bit more obvious.”

Many fans believed that Bubba was initially suspended due to his altercation with Larson. Comments like “I think he got suspended for fighting KL and pushing an official” and “I believe Bubba got suspended for confronting Larson after the incident” were shared.

While there are those who believe that Chase Elliott did not intentionally cause the wreck, some called for him to receive the same suspension as Bubba. Comments such as “100% Elliott should get a race suspension for that” and “I know they[Nascar] probably won’t do it, but there definitely needs to be a suspension” were common.

Criticism was also directed towards NASCAR’s decision to take 24 hours to examine the incident. “Basically, it means they’re trying to find any excuse not to suspend the Golden boy.”
