On Friday, Rajah Caruth did not just register his first win at NASCAR but touched another milestone with it. He achieved the notable distinction of being the third driver of color to secure a victory in a NASCAR National Series race. The other two are Wendell Scott and his mentor, Bubba Wallace. Needless to say, Caruth is overjoyed to join such ranks as a 21-year-old.

However, his mentor Wallace is more regretful at this moment than happy. What could have a mentor regretting his mentee’s win?

Bubba Wallace regrets not being present at the LVMS to witness Caruth’s win

The relationship between Rajah Caruth and Bubba Wallace extends much beyond tracks. As Caruth’s mentor, Wallace had also provided him with certain advice before the race. It seems like Caruth implemented them correctly and secured a historic win. However, Wallace expressed his regret at not being present to witness the special moment of his Rajah. He mentioned that in his seven-year Cup tenure, this was the first time he didn’t bring his bus to Vegas.

23XI Racing’s #23 said, “What a uh, cool moment to see. I hate… I called him I said out of the seven years I’ve been in the Cup, this was the first time I didn’t bring my bus out to Vegas. So I was staying on the strip, and I wasn’t here to watch. So, that’s on me, I could have drove over here.” He added, “His truck was fast, and so he had a good shot. But I sent him a couple of notes before the race and he executed to a tee.”

Wallace spoke about how Caruth motivated him this time as he roared his way to the checkered flag. As a proud mentor, he also remembered his first-time win in NASCAR back in 2013 at Martinsville Speedway, saying, “Super proud of him and everything that he’s been able to accomplish, you know everything he’s able to do to get to this point. I can only imagine, that’s ten years ago or hell, eleven years ago for me getting my first one. And just that feeling you know, and seeing him go through it all and be emotional having his family there was really cool. Now he motivated me to good out and do the same thing,” Wallace said.
