The Enjoy Illinois 300 at the World Wide Technology Raceway on Sunday was filled with unexpected twists and turns, earning the description of ‘chaos’ from many. From internet outages to brake rotor failures and drivers colliding, it was an eventful race that unfortunately ended up in an embarrassing and dangerous fashion for 23XI Racing drivers Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick.

Despite the three red flags and numerous cautions, Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch managed to clinch the victory in the dramatic race. Meanwhile, Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing could not get to the other side of the chaos and instead experienced one of its worst races of the season. Owing to a streak of disastrous brake rotor failure that plagued many drivers, even Noah Gragson fell victim to a dangerous crash that left him with some serious concussion-like symptoms.

Bubba Wallace Shares His Insights on the Embarrassing Brake Rotor Failure

Reportedly, apart from Wallace and Reddick, other drivers like Carson Hocevar and Noah Gragson also experienced brake rotor issues last weekend. And while revealing what helped him avoid a fate like Gragson, Bubba Wallace talked about why he thought it was wise to turn right into the wall.

He said, “It’s ironic that it’s the text from Jimmie after my Pocono crash when he said, ‘Making yourself turn right is the hardest thing to do? Ain’t it?’ It’s like yeah. But once I felt our breaks go out at the start/finish line, I knew to turn right and ride the wall.”

“The only bad thing is where the wall kind of kicks out on the entry in the one. So, it kicks you out. So then, your harder impact comes from the second one.”

Furthermore, while talking about how he hates the repercussions of brake-related issues, Wallace explained what helped him go through a tough decision.

He said, “So, yeah, I hate it for Noah. Hate the situation that we are in, the concussions, and how it all plans out. But I think it’s super hard to tell yourself to turn into the fence when you think that you can save it. But when you’re going at those speeds, you have no breaks, the only chance you have is to turn right.”

Moreover, Bob Pockrass asked Bubba Wallace about his views on the new changes planned by NASCAR. Revealing how he feels that the governing body is taking a step in the right direction, the 23XI driver said that the cars need to be as safe as possible. When asked if the new proposed changes make any sense to him, he said,

“It does [makes sense]. I think the impacts are still pretty harsh. But I think their big data point was the Larson and Preece crash at Talladega and the bars protruding through. And I think for the videos that I have seen and the studies that I have seen, that’s not happening…so that’s stepping in the right direction So, we are still working on the slow speed impacts where they feel like that they are high speed impacts. That’s the tough thing. But we gotta keep moving the needle but keep trying to be as safe as possible.”
