With no new winner at Daytona last Saturday, Bubba Wallace stuck to the last spot in the playoff rumble. In his third year at Denny Hamlin’s team, he joined his teammate Tyler Reddick for the round of 16s. Although Wallace’s making it into the playoffs for the first time is a significant achievement for 23XI Racing, some believe that he is not a playoff material and will not make it till the round of 12.

However, his crew chief spoke to the MRN Live podcast and launched three challenges to all the NASCAR Cup drivers and teams out there.

The Toyota Camry pilot 23XI Bubba Wallace made his second consecutive top-5 finish at the NASCAR Cup Series Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway. Dave Elenz exclaimed in the podcast, “Kurt dominated, but you guys made up for the spots you lost in the pit road all day long and still came out with a top-10 finish. It was phenomenal how you ran there.”

Bubba Wallace also revved his car to its fullest throttle and aced the NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway. The way he held off top contenders like Martin Truex Jr and his own boss, Denny Hamlin, and bagged the win was a feat in itself. “…thought you were the best car,” said Elenz.

In Bristol’s Food City Dirt Race last year, Bubba Wallace finished 28th. However, considering the difficulties his team had with the steering wrecking problem, they showed good promise on the track.

Dave Elenz referred to Bubba’s probable strategy moving into the playoffs and said, “You don’t need to hit home runs, you don’t need to win races. You just gotta go finish races and execute. And you will get yourself through because of 16 you’ll have 4 that won’t.”

“That’s gotta take some pressure off Darington knowing you got a place where you got a lot of potential to score a lot of points,” he opined.

Crew chief for Bubba Wallace, Bootie Barker, said that back in 2022, they were just trying to keep it real and run the races according to their strategies. Last year they had finished 5th at Darlington and qualified 2nd despite having problems on the pit road and one man down.

According to the 52-year-old crew chief, Bubba Wallace will pose serious threats this year at Darlington, Bristol, and Kansas. He declared, “I would say there’s no reason why we cannot be a factor at all three of these.”

When Bubba Wallace saw Chris Buescher’s #17 finishing first at Daytona, he was sure of his spot in the playoff berth, so much so that he did something that he had never done before at a speedway. He radioed to his team,

“That’s all we needed to do, thank you, thank you, thank you.”

“Way to go bruh,” said Freddie Kraft, his spotter.

Freddie retweeted the closing laps of the race as seen from Bubba Wallace’s in-car camera and wrote, “What an idiot award winning video.” Bubba Wallace took the joke in good humor and retweeted it further, saying, “Will gladly accept it.??”
