When Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan decided to create their own NASCAR team, 23XI Racing, a couple of years back, everyone knew it’d instantly be a team with high-class resources. But for their main man, Bubba Wallace, there’s one thing that he’d rather not have.
Speaking in a recent episode of All The Smoke podcast, Wallace opened up on the one thing that his boss, Denny Hamlin, brought to the team which he isn’t a big fan of.
“Being a part of this team, Denny (Hamlin), who is co-owner with MJ, we race against him. He is big in the data analytics stuff, looking at film and all this stuff,” he said.

Bubba Wallace on the art of racing that has gone away because of softwares
The 23XI Racing further elaborated how a software named SMT, which came out in 2018, has taken away the art of racing. Wallace described it as “a video game” which basically mimics a racing setup, but one where one can track metrics such as throttle application, brake application, and steering traces.
“You can see like, ‘Oh, this is how you get around this track,'” he described. “So it kind of took the art away because before it was like, ‘Man, how is Bubba driving in there, like what’s he doing?'”

But even though it’s an advantage for him to learn, Bubba Wallace still thinks such things have their pitfalls. “It’s like, ‘Well sh*t, everybody’s gonna copy what I’m doing when we’re good there,'” he added.
