For quite a while now, it seemed almost everyone was waiting for Bubba Wallace to be confronted by his actions in Vegas a couple of weeks ago involving Kyle Larson. The 23XI Racing driver received a one-race suspension for intentionally wrecking the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion.

And now, after serving his ban, he is set to drive the #45 Toyota Camry at Martinsville Speedway again.

Naturally, Wallace received a flood of questions about everything he thought of or did during his time off from the racetrack.

“Sitting out,” Wallace said when asked what was the hardest part of being out for the last two weeks. “It’s unfortunate, but I tried to play a different part in the team than I was in the driving aspect.”

The 23XI Racing driver also mentioned he helped his substitute John Hunter Nemechek in getting “the feel he needed.”

More importantly, though, Wallace revealed the conversations he had with the President of NASCAR as well as the Chief Operating Officer of the sport as he emphasized on one specific detail.

“I totally accept the penalty and the repercussions that came from my actions. I talked to (Steve) O’Donnell, and I talked to (Steve) Phelps and I said, ‘Hey, I’m good with being the example, it’s if we can keep this consistent going forward because it’s happened multiple times this year and something that may still continue to happen for other drivers down the road,’” he described.

“I’ve definitely learned my lesson, but we have to be consistent with this no matter if it’s here at Martinsville or if it’s at Daytona or Talladega,” he added.

“We gotta keep it consistent through all the boards through all the series.”

Speaking ahead of the race at Homestead last week, Bubba Wallace’s boss, Denny Hamlin, opened up on what his other boss, Michael Jordan, thought of his actions in Vegas.

Um…let me see, disappointed, just like me. There’s really no difference in his opinion or mine on this,” he disclosed.

With that said, the #11 driver emphasized once again that they’d like to, as they always do, keep everything “behind closed doors,” which is to say, deal with it internally regardless of NASCAR’s decisions.
