Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 race at the Kansas Speedway displayed some exceptional driving skills from 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace. Winning his first race since his 2021 Talladega victory, Wallace seemed to be in good form on Sunday. However, that has not been the case for a long time now.

Due to his shoulder surgery before the 2022 season, Bubba Wallace did not get much time to participate in the testing of the new Next Gen cars. Further, Wallace revealed that he struggled with gaining confidence in the new vehicles. He said;

“What I struggled with in the Cup car previously was confidence in the car and actually trusting it. With this car I was sidelined. I had shoulder surgery right after the season, and I didn’t get much testing, but I told myself going in that I needed to step up and do a better job and push the car to its limits.”

Moreover, Wallace explained how difficult it is when a driver does not know the limits of his car. Further, he called this particular season to be a good one. He said that he and his team is doing a good job. And also clarified that although the results don’t show much of what he feels, it has really been an exciting season for him personally.

Apart from that, Wallace also talked about how he finally found the groove after the surgery. He said; “It all starts with self. If you don’t show up with confidence, then you’re not going to run very good, so you definitely have to show up with that.”

During the interview, when Bubba Wallace was asked if Sunday’s race was the best one in his career, he replied that it was not actually perfect. In fact he revealed that he had a loose wheel during the race. And this frustrated him. He explained; “Don’t get me wrong, I was frustrated. I thought we had a really good car. You never know what’s going to happen when you get back there.”

With his car in place, Wallace found the right balance and led the race to the finish. Revealing what was going on in his mind at the time, he said; “Honestly, I started calling the shots. I said, when we break the threshold of fifth, it ramps up, and we need to be ready for that. Once we get the lead here, our balance has to be able to hang on that, and it fell right into our hands.”
