It is a matter of just days before all the preparations finally culminate and come to fruition on the streets of downtown Chicago. Grant Park and Lake Michigan are all set to entice NASCAR enthusiasts. The Chicago Street Race is set to be a spectacle for both the drivers and the audience, as the cars are set to race on the narrow track for the first time in 75 years of history.

While the excitement is running high among the fans, there are certain hiccups that are a cause of concern for both drivers and fans. 23XI Racing‘s Bubba Wallace is the latest voice in a growing list of drivers who seems to be agreeing with a concern that is bugging the minds of the fans.

The Chicago Street Race can be apparently termed one of the most ambitious projects that NASCAR has ever undertaken. In order to make the sport appealing to a wider fanbase and increase its viewership rates, the governing body took the leap of faith of transforming the bustling streets of the metropolitan city into a make-shift race track. But before the unprecedented event can make its way into the city, the prices of the tickets to Sunday’s race are being frowned upon.

While speaking to Chicago Sun-Times, Wallace initially praised the initiative, saying, “Comes off as being very scripted and tailored to making sponsors happy and making everybody that’s watching happy.” However, after being apprised of the base price of the tickets at $269, the #23 Toyota driver exclaimed, “A little high.”

Moreover, he added, I think that’s for another conversation another day, but we’ve got to make it accessible for everybody. Yeah, it should be cheaper.”

NASCAR had accepted that it does not expect the inaugural race to bring in profits to the organization, but to showcase its innovative approach towards the sport, which has witnessed a steep decrease in viewership. Nevertheless, the inaugural race is expected to generate a significant amount of revenue for the city. The expected footfall for the race weekend is estimated at 100,000 and churn out $113 million in revenue.

The price of tickets is surely skyrocketing, but that does not stop NASCAR fans from being a part of the festivities and the celebrations of the milestone of NASCAR. And it seems that McDonald’s is also setting the stage for celebrating the iconic race by announcing a new meal exclusive for Chicago residents and being available from June 25 till the end of the race weekend.

The Golden Arches, who are the primary sponsors of Bubba Wallace as well as the Chicago event, named the $8 meal after the driver. The meal includes 10 chicken McNuggets, medium fries, and a medium Dr. Pepper. This announcement by the food giant comes months after it faced backlash from the fans for continuing to sponsor Wallace, after the Kyle Larson-Bubba Wallace debacle in Las Vegas.
