23XI Racing is in a buoyant mood at present. When Michael Jordan filed the NASCAR lawsuit back in October 2024, it looked like his team would be in shambles. Neither 23XI nor Front Row Motorsports signed the charter deal, and they were on the brink of losing their full-time seats. However, the federal court secured their 2025 season – and now 23XI drivers Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick are happy.

The two Toyota speedsters are even indulging in a bit of light-hearted banter before the season starts. McDonald’s has been a primary sponsor for both drivers and is known for its snazzy, creative design schemes. This time, the drivers had a funny experience that coincided with their marketing objective.

Bubba Wallace adds to a failed but jovial commercial

Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace have differences on the racetrack. Last season, the No. 45 Toyota was on fire, as Reddick clinched three Cup Series races and cracked the Championship 4 race. Meanwhile, Wallace marginally missed the playoffs despite posting his best career finishes – 14 top-tens and 6 top-fives. Despite this disparity, the two teammates have a jovial relationship off the racetrack. This was visible when in 2023, Wallace posted a hilarious picture. It showed him facing Reddick with a visibly angered face, while Reddick had his back to the camera. Both drivers had the McDonald’s logo plastered widely on their firesuits, and Wallace wrote, “Best caption wins.”

Similarly, this jovial camaraderie is again on display as the drivers prepare for their 2025 season. McDonald’s is again back to sponsor the two teammates for the brand-new Cup Series season, but not without some fun first. Bubba Wallace posted a behind-the-scenes video of a recent commercial shoot, where Tyler Reddick was repeating a blunder. He forgot the string of ingredients to a McDonald’s burger, and shouted out whenever he missed one word: “Pickles!” Wallace and the entire filming crew were sent into fits of laughter. Besides mimicking his teammate, Wallace captioned the post: “Somebody please media train @TylerReddick.”

Diehard NASCAR fans wait with bated breath for 23XI Racing’s unique paint schemes. Usually, McDonald’s is behind them. They introduced an amazing idea back in October 2023, ahead of the Homestead-Miami race in the Round of 8 playoff round. Tyler Reddick‘s No. 45 sported the Hamburglar, a commercial character who tries to hoard burgers but fails. Then Bubba Wallace’s No. 23 was splashed with the violet colors of the Grimace, another McDonald’s mascot known for its dry humor. Then in For the Chicago Street Race last year, McDonald’s partnered up with the popular anima Jujutsu Kaisen for a snazzy No. 23 design.

NASCAR fans poke fun at Reddick’s blunder

Well, screaming ‘Pickles’ at the top of your voice can be a tickling experience. Tyler Reddick forgot that spicy ingredient’s name three times in a row – does he have some sort of history with the food? That is what a fan implied when they came up with an innovative name for the stellar driver, referencing the popular show Rick and Morty: “Pickle R(edd)ick.” The way that the No. 45 Toyota driver yells out the word sent both Bubba Wallace and the McDonald’s filming crew rolling on the floor. ‘Pickles’ is a pretty neutral word, but Reddick’s tone adds spice to the already spicy food. A fan observed this: “PICKLES!” sounds like the kind of thing you’d scream when you want to use profanity but your kid’s in the room.”

NASCAR is filled with drivers who have nicknames. For instance, Tony Stewart sports the name ‘Smoke’ referring to his smoking victories on eclectic racetracks. Then Dale Earnhardt Sr. is known as ‘The Intimidator’ for his aggressive yet iconic tactics in races. Now, Tyler Reddick also seems to have gotten a nickname. Fans insist on it: “New nickname for Tyler.” The circumstances are also a bit odd, as not only is he off the racetrack, but also it has nothing to do with his wheeling skills. Another fan wrote: “And that’s how Tyler got the nickname Pickles.”

23XI Racing is a young team, as Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin formed it in 2020. Despite its short tenure, it has already gained immense popularity among NASCAR fans. The culture of unity, camaraderie, and hard work is reflected in the team’s work. Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick’s lighthearted commercial consolidated this image, as a fan wrote: “The greatest duo in nascar.”
