NASCAR Cup Series champions Kevin Harvick and Chase Elliott drew blanks in the Super Late Model Blizzard Series race at Five Flags Speedway. All the hype ahead of the race at the half-mile track in Pensacola, Florida, was about the NASCAR star. However, Late Model racing stars Bubba Pollard, Casey Roderick, and Stephen Nasse outshined the stardom, and truth be told, neither Harvick nor Elliott came close to contesting for the win.
Bubba Pollard, known for his dominance on the short-track ovals, brought his A-game and bagged his 25th career Blizzard Series victory. However, after the triumphant run, Pollard wanted the fans to continue showering love and support as they did on Friday.

It was a night when fans showed up in numbers to catch a glimpse of the NASCAR star. But the big three Southern Super Late Model stars put on quite a show that would encourage them to return for more future races. With 19 laps to go, Pollard took the lead from Casey Roderick and cruised his way to victory. Meanwhile, Nasse also got better of Roderick and bagged a runner-up finish.
Both Harvick and Elliott had a day to forget as they came short against the challenge of racing against Late Model racing aces. The HMS star even got knocked out of the lead laps halfway through the race and finished 16th. Harvick, who made his Super Late Model debut, could only manage a 13th-place finish.
Bubba Pollard was ecstatic about his win and wanted to see continued support from the fans in the future. “I know Kevin Harvick and Chase Elliott brought all y’all fans, but I hope you come back. When I turn around and do a victory lap, it feels good when those guys are cheering for you. That’s what it’s all about; I love it.” He was quoted saying this via Racing America.
On a night where the NASCAR stars brought out a big crowd, the podium featured The Big 3 of the Southern Super Late Model scene.

It’s just hard to keep race car drivers from competitive racing. While NASCAR Cup Series racing is the pinnacle of stock car racing, that doesn’t mean there are no other challenges for drivers to overcome. Kevin Harvick, who has pretty much won everything at the Cup level, has now found a project to which he can dedicate himself.

One of the major challenges to such short-track races in Super Late or Late Model events is tire wear. Perhaps something NASCAR should be taking note of in trying to improve its short-track package. “You burn the back tires off it when you’re not right. I want to run races with these guys in it because I really like these racers … I really like Bubba Pollard, Casey Roderick. This is my idea of fun right now. And yeah, we struggled a little bit, but I also need a project like this, something to work on and get better at in this stage of my career.” Harvick said this via ShortTrack Scene.
It will be interesting to see how post-NASCAR racing serves Harvick, especially the Late Model stock car events.
