Until 1984, NASCAR often frequented the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. In recent times, there were hints at a potential return to the calendar, but now they have picked up steam.

In fact, rumor has it that the track’s return could soon be a reality. Recently, the Bristol Motor Speedway and Speedway Motorsports Inc. revealed that they are in talks for the track’s return. As per reports, the much-anticipated return could come as early as 2022.

Bristol Motor Speedway and Speedway Motorsports are thrilled to take this step forward with Mayor Cooper, the Fair Board, Metro Council, and the neighborhood stakeholders,said Marcus Smith, Speedway Motorsports President.

“We can work together to transform Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway into an amazing multipurpose entertainment destination. We’re ready to roll up our sleeves and go to work to fully restore the speedway, recruit national events and breathe new life into a venue that has a legendary status in auto racing history,” Smith added.

How will the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway prepare for a return?

If all goes well, the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway will undergo preservation and upgrades. This includes improved safety measures to be at the level that the NASCAR National Series find satisfactory.

It is also worth noting that the Bristol Motor Speedway authorities could soon take over the management of Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. In light of this, Bristol will have to take on financial responsibility and help renovate and maintain the speedway.

Of course, Nashville city will still reap the benefits of revenue, courtesy lease, rent, and shared-event-venue agreements.

According to Mayor of Nashville John Cooper, the new management can help stop the track from financially draining taxpayers. With their help, it can fund community improvements at the racetrack and the surrounding area.

Admittedly, the deal is not set in stone just yet. However, the signs are pretty positive that the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway could come back to the NASCAR schedule soon.
