Brad Keselowski’s and RFK Racing‘s 2023 season has truly been the stuff of legends. Ever since the 2014 Cup Series champion bought his way into the team, the Ford camp isn’t dormant anymore. In fact, the giant has woken up from its slumber with back-to-back wins, including the ones at Richmond and Daytona.

From being one of the sport’s most successful teams to its consequent downfall and iconic rise, RFK Racing’s tale is indeed fascinating. While veteran Keselowski and his driver have made Ford fans proud by cruising into the playoffs, the #17 driver recently made a massive revelation, exposing the team’s worst fear.

The highly anticipated superspeedway race at Daytona was a treat for Ford fans. Both Keselowski and his driver, Chris Buescher, got the Mustangs across the line with a picture-perfect finish. Buscher and his boss crossed the finish line first and second, something the team hadn’t seen in the past nine years.

A splendid short track race at Richmond and impressive high-speed speedway action at MIS the next week really boosted the morale of the team. While the back-to-back wins got the driver a playoff spot, heading into the short-track action at Bristol Motor Speedway, where Buescher and his #17 have a terrific track record, Buescher also shared his honest thoughts.

During the pre-race media coverage, Buescher, who won here last year, hinted at some concerns. Mentioning his disappointing Kansas race, he said,You watch the race back and you watch 10, 12 tires go down and you watch steering rack issues, stuff that one of our cars experienced a tire go down, not so much on the other issues.”

However, the driver hinted at the issue, saying, “But there’s a lot riding on this race and quite a few unknowns – stuff that we really haven’t talked about in a long time and kind of thought we were over before Kansas, but it’s got to be on your mind. The thing is there’s just not much you can do about it here. There’s no room to let up. There’s no 85 percent here. You’ll get run over. You’ve got to go out there and run 100 percent.”

Last week’s Cup Series action at the intermediate in Kansas was more of a disappointment for Buescher and Ford fans. Despite hanging in with the pack till the very last, a last-minute run-in with bad luck ruined his chances of finishing well. With just 7 laps to the checkered flag, the #17 driver was in the chase for a win, a win that could’ve got him above the cutline to make the next round.

Sadly enough, Sunday’s race wasn’t going for a feel-good finish. Instead, it took a turn for the worse when Buescher got into the wall after a tire cut, essentially ruining it for the driver and fans. The driver has a deficit of 13 points despite 3 spectacular wins.

While Joe Gibbs Racing‘s sensation, Christopher Bell, secured a straight third pole in Bristol, Buescher starts 20th in the grid with a lap time of 15.345. Consequently, the driver posted a bittersweet tweet that read, “Not starting where we’d like to but the car feels good.”
