Not a single day passes in the NASCAR world without jaw-dropping news making the headlines. From SHR disbanding, Martin Truex Jr retiring, Bell having an “oops” moment, or Chase Briscoe joining JGR –there is always something that turns eyes. And seems like there is yet another piece of information, and it’s a pretty shocking one. The Athletic has reported that the sanctioning body is planning to cut three playoff tracks from the current line-up for the 2025 season. One of them has shocked the entire NASCAR community.
In a recent episode of “The Teardown,” renowned journalists Jeff Gluck and Jordon Bianchi revealed the names of the tracks not going to host the post-seasonal races next season. This includes the fan favorite- Homestead-Miami. “We know about Atlanta. That’s already been announced moving from starting the playoffs to mid-summer. Two other tracks that the Athletic has learned will be moving out of the playoffs; Watkins Glen and Homestead. No homestead in the playoffs; supposedly moving… I’ve been told… to early March or mid-March!
And this news was so out of the blue that it even had insiders spitting a controversial 2-word verdict on it!

A blow for NASCAR fans for the 2025 season playoffs
NASCAR was supposed to release its 2025 schedule around May and as of yet, it has still not been updated. However, this news has made the rounds, and people are just not happy. Fans and veterans are finding it tough to find the rationale behind the decision. Because how does one remove Homestead, one of the best tracks on the schedule? Even renowned spotter Brett Griffin was shaken.
In the podcast ‘Door Bumper Clear’, Brett Grifin said, “I think I’m okay with the playoffs changing tracks, but this smells like a fart in a sleeping bag. This just does not get me excited.” He further added a rather bold statement, “It stinks.” Even Freddie Kraft feels that while the rest of the tracks on the schedule might not have much impact, Homestead will disappoint fans. According to him, the minimal crowd pull is what brought about the decision by NASCAR. But Brett Griffin argued, saying that Homestead cannot pull such a crowd, given that there is nothing much around it.
Meanwhile, there will be some new additions shaking off the playoff lineup for the coming year. Firstly, New Hampshire is joining the roster and bringing in the excited and passionate fanbase to the mix. Next, the Worldwide Technology Raceway will host one of the ten playoff races. And Darlington, which made a temporary exit this time, due to date conflicts with Labor Day, will rejoin the playoff schedule.
However, Homestead being removed is a gut punch not just for fans but also for drivers like Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, and Tyler Reddick. They all have a comfort level on this track and this sure is another thing on their “to worry” list now that it’s removed from next year’s playoffs.

Homestead-Miami is a highly sought-after location for hosting playoff races. The 1.5-mile oval South Floridian track hosted the championship 4 consecutively from 2002 to 2019 and has been in the playoff picture for 18 years. So its sudden removal is quite a shock! However, Jordon Bianchi has a reason behind why Homestead-Miami is off the list. According to Bianchi, adding the track to the beginning of the year would give NASCAR an extra “warm weather date” that won’t be hampered by unfavorable weather conditions.
He said, “I’ve been told that it’s because they need another warm weather date. Fontana, as you know, is off the schedule. You only have two west-coast races now. You do not have a lot of races at the beginning of the year where weather isn’t going to be an issue or shouldn’t be an issue.”

On the other hand, there have been rumors suggesting that the authorities are taking out Homestead temporarily. The officials wish to renovate the track in hopes of pulling a larger crowd. There is another rumor that NASCAR is going to add an international race next year, as they wish to strike a deal with the promoters in Mexico City and Montreal.
