Just a couple of days back, NASCAR introduced Faction46 as the new team in the Truck Series. The team confirmed its full-time participation in the competition starting with the race at Daytona International Speedway in 2024. However, the more interesting part is that Richard Petty’s grandson Thad Moffitt has been confirmed as the team’s driver for next year.

In a news conference attended by Faction46 owner Lane Moore, Moffitt showed up with his legendary grandfather Richard Petty, and crew chief Doug George. The 7x NASCAR Cup Series champion proudly showed off his love and support for Moffitt as the revelation took place.

It was just last year that Thad Moffitt made his NASCAR debut having taken the part-time role at Reaume Brothers Racing in the Truck Series. While he has been a regular driver in the ARCA Menards Series, associating with Faction46 is certainly a step up for Richard Petty’s 23-year-old grandson.

With five top-five and 12 top-ten finishes to his name in 2021, Thad Moffitt showed he had a bright future ahead of himself. Not to forget, Faction46 has a technical alliance with Niece Motorsports which will certainly help Moffitt’s cause. Additionally, his crew chief and former NASCAR driver Doug George’s experience will only help Moffitt flourish better.

What’s more interesting is that Moffitt’s move comes at the time the Petty family celebrates 75 years of racing in 2024. In addition to Moffitt, Customers Bank, Safety-Kleen, Joe Jurgielewicz & Son-Americas Tastiest Duck, and Pristine Auction join as primary sponsors.

Safe to say, Thad Moffitt will have plenty of expectations given his background. While Faction46 has shown a great amount of faith in him, he still has some big shoes to fill in. The Petty family has enjoyed a stellar spell in NASCAR and it is now on Moffitt to make it big.

Speaking about this opportunity with Faction46 and as reported by nascar.com, Moffitt said, “This is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for. I’m thrilled that Lane has put his trust in me to begin this new venture with him in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with Faction46.”
