JR Motorsports driver, Brandon Jones, has bagged pole position for the A-Game 200 Xfinity Series race at Dover Motor Speedway. After his disappointing end last weekend at Talladega, Jones has bounced back in some style and will lead the charge for tomorrow’s race. Joining him on the front row will be Richard Childress Racing driver, Riley Herbst.
The 2024 season has been a torrid one for the 27-year-old. Going early in the qualifying session, he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to hold on to the pole. The likes of Austin Hill and Sheldon Creed did try their best to topple the JR Motorsports driver but came up short with their efforts. Jones’ lap time of 22.950 reigned supreme throughout the afternoon, thus resulting in a big turnover for the No. 9 JR Motorsports team.

Dover seems to have been a good place for Jones, where he has managed to show speed and churn out good finishes. Back in 2022, he was in a similar position, winning the pole position for the event with JGR. However, he wasn’t able to convert the good starting position into a win and had to be content with a #7 position.
Speaking after today’s successful qualifying round, Jones talked about his plans and how he is looking to capitalize on the advantage of being on pole. “Yeah, you know the key will be to hold on the track position out here. I want to go ahead and try to get some stages man. That’s been the thing that I’ve wanted to do all year. Just go out and stay competitive in the stages, stay around the top five in both stages and have a shot then to go win the race at the end.”
He acknowledged the unique challenge of the race track and talked about his preparation ahead of the race. “Love coming to the track, I mentioned earlier, it’s just a unique place to come to so hopefully we can close this thing for tomorrow. Go back and study a little bit and see how last year’s pole guy fired off and how he maintained track position, so that will be my homework for tonight, but looking forward to get back here tomorrow.”

Staring up front, we have the pole winner, Brand Jones and Riley Herbst placed second. Justin Allgaier and Austin Hill share the second row in the third and fourth spots. Sheldon Creed and Kyle Weatherman find themselves in the third row. Last weekend’s winner at Talladega, Jesse Love, finds himself starting eight, just behind Chandler Smith. Whereas, Taylor Gray and A.J. Allmendinger round out the top ten starting spots.
Notable names such as Cole Custer, Sam Mayer, and Corey Heim could not make the cut inside the top ten positions. Hailie Deegan, who had a career-best finish last weekend, finds herself in #29, whereas Kiwi speedster, Shane van Gisbergen is starting at the tail end of the field in the 31st spot. The good news about these drivers is that their starting position doesn’t decide their fate for the main event. And given that the Monster Mile has its own unique challenges, they might fancy their chances and jump positions early in the race.
