This Sunday is the NASCAR Cup Series race at the Bristol Motor Speedway dirt track. The big point of contention is that this particular Sunday is Easter Sunday. A fair number of people are not overly fond of the sport hosting a racing during this weekend. This includes Dale Earnhardt Jr and many others in the NASCAR community. However, Brad Keselowski’s wife had a completely different take.

According to her, she is looking forward to the Easter service at Bristol. In addition to that, her daughter Scarlett was eager to see singer Chris Tomlin at the track. Admittedly, it is unclear whether Brad Keselowski shares his wife’s opinion about an Easter weekend race.
Why do Dale Earnhardt Jr and Brad Keselowski’s family disagree?

Dale Jr believes that Easter is supposed to be a time for family to be together. Although there have been 11 other NASCAR weekends held on Easter, it still does not sit well with the community. In fact, spotter Brett Griffin nearly threatened to not attend a NASCAR race held on the Christian holiday. Even the likes of Rodney Childers has spoken out against Easter races. According to him, in his 35 years in the sport, he has never raced on Easter Sunday. He insisted that in a time like this, family is the most important thing.
In all honesty, they have a point, because a holiday like Easter is supposed to be about family. Already, NASCAR drivers spend a lot of time, traveling to and fro, with little time to spend with their families.

Especially on a global holiday, the need will always be there. However, it is interesting to note that the MLB, NHL, and NBA do not get an off during the weekend. Perhaps NASCAR wanted to maximize the potential of the TV audience.
