When the new short-track package was introduced in Phoenix, there were lots of points of contention from fans that it was not working. Well, a lot of those doubts will be laid to rest after the motorsports masterpiece that NASCAR pulled off at the Bristol Motor Speedway. RFK Racing star Brad Keselowski was in the thick of the action for the lead for long periods of the race, and he was largely impressed with what he experienced on Sunday.
The driver of the #6 car finished P3 behind Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr making it back-to-back top-five finishes for the team after a lackluster start to the season. The veteran race car driver will be looking to carry this momentum into Austin next week when NASCAR goes to the Circuit of the Americas.

Speaking to the media after the race, Brad Keselowski hailed the strategy game. There were a lot of question marks over the quality of the racing at the short track given the Next-Gen car’s woes, but fans could not have asked for a better race. The RFK Racing star said that he had fun driving a race where strategy and tire management played a bigger role than speed, something that his veteran racing mind is comfortable dealing with.
“It was interesting. Like a little short track race, you go to any of these local short tracks; that’s how you gotta race; you gotta take care of your stuff. It’s refreshing; it’s different. I liked that it takes something different every week. That’s what makes Cup so hard: you go in every week, some weeks you drive them till they burn down, and this week you gotta care of them. It was fun, we had a really good car, we got a little damage on pit road otherwise I feel like were able to compete with the #11 and the #19. Really looking forward to coming back here in the fall and proud of our race today,” the driver of the #6 said.

There may be a lot of new faces in the Cup Series this season, but once again, the veterans showed just how it’s done on short tracks where tire wear is high and traffic is endless.

Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr, and Brad Keselowski finished in the top three places, and they are the three oldest drivers in the competition this year. It is a testament to all of their racecraft and will to win, even at the back end of their respective careers. Eventually, the two Joe Gibbs Racing cars broke away from the rest of the field, and that’s who the camera followed almost entirely in the closing stages of the race.
However, one thing that should be kept in mind is that Keselowski held on to that third place. Think about all the traffic the two JGR stars had to get past, and they both struggled. It was traffic that essentially cost Truex the win. Keselowski had to manage all of that as well, and he had a couple of Hendrick Motorsports cars behind him. One tiny error and things could have gone sideways really fast.
