Chris Buescher had an exceptional Cup season this year. RFK Racing is at an all-time high with Buescher’s and Brad Keselowski‘s 1-2 finish at Daytona. They have talented drivers, both of whom qualified for the playoffs. They currently have 12 Top 5 finishes combined. Looking at all of this, it would be perfectly normal, expected even, for the team to celebrate this incredible performance. However, Keselowski is not like any other team owner. And under his regime, RFK Racing is not just any other team.
He would be the first to tell you it’s far too early to get complacent at this stage, which is what he did ahead of Darington.

Keselowski is many things to many people in the racing world. He is a skilled driver, race winner, 2012 Cup champion, and one of the 75 greatest drivers of all time. Now, as an inspiring leader, he persuaded a languishing team to glory.
Incidentally, none of this would be possible if he had settled for his initial success. He reiterated that during media interactions before the first round of playoffs began.
During his interview at NASCAR HUB, he was asked, “At this point right now, is it a situation where you look at this year and no matter what happens for the next 10 weeks, it’s pretty much been a success just getting those cars into the playoffs?”
Keselowski has already moved on from ending the regular season with a flourish. He wants to build on Buescher’s victory and pay the way for future accomplishments. And this is exactly how he responded prior to the crucial race at Darlington.
“Yes and no. You know I think, the thing that I’ve been trying to tell our guys, and we’ll tell our team and anybody at RFK, is that we’re pleased certainly, to be where we’re at, to have both cars in the playoffs. And, you know, for Chris to have won three of the last five races entering the playoffs. Certainly a great momentum, but we’re not satisfied.”

Although Keselowski qualified 9th in the playoff standings, he wasn’t personally victorious this year. The #6 Ford driver had 6 Top 5 finishes and 11 Top 10 finishes this year. But for a driver with 35 previous wins in cup races, the lack of a race victory is deeply disheartening. He would endeavor to rectify that deprivation in the upcoming rounds.
However, his team has always been his foremost priority, the cornerstone upon which he would center the coming weeks.
Therefore, Keselowski ensured Buescher and his team remained anchored to the pivotal task at hand. He explained, “I know what we know we’re capable than more than this. And the last thing we wanna do is to just make the playoffs and call it a day. I think that this team’s got a lot of potential with both cars. And we need to go out there and go get it. We need to stay hungry, stay focused, and not get too caught up on our own press clippings.”

He was further asked if Buescher’s wins affected him in terms of pressure and expectations. But Keselowski stood by the team. He responded that they encouraged each other throughout. Moreover, he firmly believed their best was yet to come.
“Yeah, he’s done a great job… I mean we were right there, right together with a 1-2 finish and pushing each other across the line so you know it easily could be either way on all three of those wins (Buescher’s). I feel like the good stuff’s still coming for us. We’re saving our performances here for the playoffs when it really counts.”
