Truex Jr. retiring soon? Keselowski's bold claim has fans buzzing. What's your take?

The end of Martin Truex Jr’s full-time Cup Series career is not going according to plan. He has been on a winless streak despite being in the playoffs and winning at Bristol is extremely important for him. It was 20 years ago when he got behind a Cup Series race car for the first time, and ever since then, he has managed to consistently impress everyone. However recently that has changed as he has been winless since his New Hampshire win last year.

In 2024, Truex Jr’s season started better than it has been recently. He managed to come in the top 5 in four races by the time the NASCAR calendar reached Kansas. But ever since then, the best result he has achieved was P8 at Pocono. This is in stark contrast to last year, where he won 3 races in the regular season but fell off in the playoffs. Now that he has decided to step down from full-time racing, fans wonder when they’ll get to see him next.

Following the Watkins Glen race, Fox Sports asked several drivers from the grid about Martin Truex Jr’s retirement. One of the questions that was asked was: how many times would they see the 2017 champion after his retirement?

Martin Truex Jr is quite an introverted driver and is known to not mix around too much. His presence around the NASCAR scene has already been called scarce, but after he retires, many drivers believe they won’t get to see him.

There has been a lot of talk about MTJ taking on the 2025 Daytona 500, and there are rumors that he will be racing for 23XI Racing as per Denny Hamlin’s suggestion. Although Denny Hamlin answered the question, saying he will see MTJ “three times.” Bob Pockrass replied, “You might see him more in your shop.”

Brad Keselowski‘s answer, on the other hand, has people scratching their heads. When the same question was asked to Keselowski, he replied, “We’ll see Martin twice next year. I don’t know where I came up with that number, but it’s a guess.”

Have an interesting take?

We know that the Daytona 500 might be where everyone gets to meet MTJ again, but regarding Keselowski’s sentence, many wonder when that would be. Maybe he knows more than he is sharing, and Truex Jr has revealed something to him. However, as of now, all that is known is the fact that Truex Jr.. will have at least one appearance in 2025 and that will be at Daytona.

With Truex Jr retiring, it’s only fair that other drivers share a few words about him and the legacy that he will leave behind. Among the drivers, Chase Elliott had the lowest estimate of meeting Martin Truex Jr as he replied to the question, saying, “Probably none. I think he’s running the 500, but I don’t know that I’ll see him there. Zero percent. Which is good. That’s what it should be. He should enjoy his time.”

Christopher Bell believes that Truex Jr will do the Daytona 500 in a Cup Series car but might do a couple of Xfinity Series races for fun. A slightly more positive Joey Logano said, “I think we’ll see him… maybe he will run a couple of races here and there in some different things. But I think that will be it.”

A hyper-positive Ryan Blaney guessed, “More than seven races,” which must make Martin Truex Jr fans happy to see their favorite driver on track so often after retiring. When Martin Truex Jr himself was asked how often other drivers would see him, he replied, “I’m not sure either. I’m kind of looking at it still. Definitely once. And then from there, my guess would be five, six, seven times. So we’ll see.”

Despite being an introvert, Martin Truex Jr believes that he will be around the circuits quite a few times next year. Just because he plans on retiring from driving, that does not mean that he is done with NASCAR as a whole. We do not know what he has in store for him, but we wish him all the best for the Bristol race, where he might have his last shot at becoming a champion if he makes it into the top 12.
