One of the biggest boxes that NASCAR wants to tick with the Next Gen car is the objective of pack racing. And during the recent testing at Daytona, many drivers found themselves in that very situation as a pack formed. But one of those drivers, Brad Keselowski, remained less than optimistic about the tandem come the Daytona 500.
Keselowski was asked about the tandem that formed in testing, to which he said, “Yeah, some pretty ideal conditions today, in a testing scenario, a lot of you can do things like that. But I don’t think you’ll be able to do, when we come back to race.”
“We’re all pushing the limits of the car, trying to learn what we can about it and that’s a great way to do it.”

The Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing driver described the new cars as “little-bit difficult to drive,” but not “overly difficult.” “Just a good challenge,” Keselowski said.

Along with Brad Keselowski, what did other drivers think of Daytona ‘testing’?
Joey Logano, who got into a race like situation with Denny Hamlin, said, “Kurt (Busch), myself, Denny, and Ricky (Stenhouse Jr.), we were all out there shoving each other pretty hard. Racing like we’re coming to the end of the Daytona 500. I don’t know why we do that but it’s a race. There’s race cars on the racetrack. It turns into a race and we race each other.”

“It’s intense, to say the least,” Logano added.
Rookie Austin Cindric said he was “pretty happy,” with the way the pack formed up. “We were able to make runs and race for the lead. It was funny – it was pretty hard racing for a test session,” he said.

This was just the ‘testing’ at Daytona which came with a bonus of some racing, all in the same day. Probably this was a glimpse of what’s to come in the race in a few weeks.
