When NASCAR rolled into the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 2022, nobody really knew what to expect. The venue was transformed, with new asphalt blanketing almost the whole coliseum floor, even though it lacked the usual pit lanes we’re used to seeing. The tighter turns of the track brought a fresh and exciting vibe, making for a race that was truly a spectacle to watch. But in 2023, the folks running the show did something that left the fans split down the middle. Some loved the change, others not so much.

But now, fast forward a bit, and Brad Keselowski is back in the conversation, stirring things up. He recently made a post on Twitter inviting fans to the Los Angeles track. Well, seemingly he’s reignited the buzz, and now everyone’s chattering about what’s in store at this iconic venue.

When Brad Keselowski gave a nod to the LA Coliseum race, his support didn’t exactly hit the mark with the fans

Flashback to 2022, and you’ll remember NASCAR trying something totally new. They set up a makeshift asphalt track inside the historic LA Memorial Coliseum. The move came as the sport was seeing dwindling crowds at the Busch Clash at Daytona Superspeedway, mirroring a trend at many of NASCAR’s larger venues.

Joey Logano took the crown, beating Kyle Busch in the 2022 season-opening exhibition race at a venue known for hosting the Olympics and Super Bowls, but never a NASCAR race. Now, with the track gearing up to host roaring stock cars again, Keselowski invited fans over with a post saying, “I’m proud that our sport gets to race in a venue as legendary as the LA Coliseum. This is a place filled with iconic moments where champions have been crowned. Im counting down the days until we are back and seeing the stands filled with fans will make it even more special. Use my exclusive link for 10% off tickets to the race and come help us kick off the season strong.”

But fans weren’t exactly jumping with joy. Maybe it’s partially also because of the announcement made at the beginning of 2023 about the top three drivers getting medals on a podium – an idea that didn’t sit well with many. Keselowski overlooking the fans’ feelings isn’t something NASCAR enthusiasts expected from him.

And that’s why comments like, “This is mostly unpopular with the majority of loyal NASCAR fans. I’ll be glad when they finally pull the plug on it,” and “wish nascar wouldn’t cater to the one day fans that only fill half the stands for a boring race that only the front 4 guys have a chance of winning. Bring back the shoot out in #Daytona like it’s supposed to be,” were there on his post.

For now, the silver lining for fans is getting to enjoy the NASCAR Mexico Series along with the Busch Clash at the LA Coliseum. Let’s see how that pans out.

This year, NASCAR fans are in for a treat even before the season-opening Cup Series exhibition kicks off. The Busch Clash at the LA Coliseum is spicing things up with a dash of extra racing action. That’s right, a NASCAR Mexico race is all set to hit the track, a bonus round of adrenaline-pumping action before the big show starts.

For the past two years, NASCAR’s season curtain-raiser has been the Busch Light Clash at the iconic Coliseum. And now, come February 4, another race has been added to the venue that’s been the backdrop for two Super Bowls, two Olympics, a World Series, and a plethora of other major events over its century-long history. This essentially means fans will now get to witness the thrill of two races in one day at the California venue.
