The rags-to-riches element in success stories has always inspired individuals around the world. Behind such stories lie years of dedication, persistence, and faith in self. This stands true for numerous NASCAR personalities.
The glittery world of NASCAR is alluring to outsiders as millions of dollars come into play. But not everyone is born with a silver spoon in their mouth. And Brad Keselowski stands as a testament to this fact. The Cup Series driver proudly states that to Kenny Wallace in the latest episode of the Kenny Wallace show.

At present, it is Chevrolet, Toyota, and Ford that dominate the engine manufacturing sector in NASCAR. But among the three manufacturers, it is Chevrolet that leads the pack, with Ford struggling to get a grip on the track. However, this has not always been the same scenario, as the team once dominated the tracks, with a remarkable designer behind the engine. It is none other than Robert Yates.
And it is through the hands of Robert Yates Racing that Brad Keselowski found his break in the world of stock car racing. Speaking to former Cup Series driver Kenny Wallace, the 2012 Cup Series champion expressed how the iconic Ford engine creator had provided him the platform, lunched his NASCAR career, and pulled him up from his financially deplorable state.
Keselowski shared, “My career was struggling and I don’t mean lightly. I mean my career was on the ropes, and at the time, my family business was gone and had been sold off. My dad had an effective speed shop that made its way into being a NASCAR team.”
He added, “When he got sick and when my uncle retired, there wasn’t enough stability to run the business. And then, that was really what I wanted to do: to be a part of that business. They kind of put me in some way on the streets and I had to take up odd jobs in racing for people. It took working on cars, tire guy, and eventually, I got to where I ran into people who said, ‘Hey, I want to run an ARCA car, will you help me?’ And I said, ‘Yeah.’ ”

Being a team owner was not an overnight process for Keselowski, and the inception can be traced to his struggling days. Continuing on the same lines, he expressed, “I will start a company and run the car for you. You buy the car and we will go. And the next thing I knew I had an ARCA team, this was 2007. And we needed cars, that’s how I got into Robert Yates Racing in 2007, and I would go to the test with the ARCA team and try to learn.
“While I was at the test, I would soak it all up which eventually helped to spur my career. I have always been whatever-it-takes kind of guy. And when my driving career fell flat on its face probably in the middle till the end of 2006, I had to be resourceful and I was able to stay in the sport and reboot my career at that time.”
